Job Title: Early Childhood Substitute Paraprofessional
Department: Early Childhood/Community Education
Reports To: Early Childhood Coordinator
Schedule: as needed
Job Summary:
The Early Childhood Paraprofessional assists the Early Childhood Teacher in supporting students with providing high-quality, student-centered early childhood education that supports school readiness and whole-child development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not directly supervise employees unless specifically assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Core Professional Responsibilities
- Support children in the classroom with various activities, ensuring their safety, and providing assistance as needed
- Provide additional support to students who may need additional support or guidance with tasks
- Maintain safety of students and assist as needed
- Work with the classroom teacher to deliver and support classroom instruction
- Model appropriate developmental behaviors and engage through play and interaction with the students
- Assist the student with self-help and independent living skills
- Maintain confidentiality of students
- Support building and classroom policies
- Maintain good communication skills and a cooperative working environment with other district staff
- Other duties as assigned
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Meet Minnesota paraprofessional qualifications or be eligible to obtain them
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with students through childcare, school, recreation, volunteer, or youth-program experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
Work Environment:
Work is performed in active early childhood classrooms with frequent movement, close contact with children, noise, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and indoor/outdoor activities.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry children or classroom materials up to approximately 40 pounds.
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stand, walk, and actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to respond quickly and safely to children''s needs and emergencies.
