The director will lead Central''s competitive One Act Play program and provide students with a positive, challenging, and rewarding theater experience. The successful candidate will be able to build relationships with students, develop performers of varying experience levels, organize all aspects of a production, and prepare students to represent Central Public Schools at MSHSL One Act Play competition. Position Responsibilities The One Act Play Director will: Select an appropriate production in collaboration with the Activities Department and consistent with school expectations and MSHSL requirements. Organize and conduct auditions and select the cast and student crew. Develop and communicate a rehearsal and production schedule. Direct students in acting, characterization, blocking, stage movement, voice, projection, and other performance skills. Create a positive, inclusive, and challenging environment that encourages student growth, creativity, responsibility, and teamwork. Prepare the production for MSHSL One Act Play competition and ensure compliance with applicable MSHSL rules, timelines, performance limits, and technical requirements. Coordinate all aspects of the production, including sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and other technical needs. Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, competitions, and other program activities. Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, school staff, and the Activities Department. Coordinate transportation, competition logistics, equipment, and other program needs with the Activities Department. Maintain appropriate program records and manage expenditures within the established program budget. Promote participation in theater and help build enthusiasm for Central''s performing arts programs. Model professionalism, sportsmanship, and appropriate conduct while representing Central Public Schools. Follow all district policies, student activity expectations, safety procedures, and MSHSL requirements. Perform other duties related to the One Act Play program as assigned by the Dean of Students / Activities Director. Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: Experience directing, coaching, performing in, or producing theatrical productions. Experience working with middle school and/or high school students. Knowledge of MSHSL One Act Play rules and competition procedures. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to effectively teach, motivate, and engage students with varying levels of theater experience. Ability to manage multiple aspects of a production and work within established timelines and budgets. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, staff, volunteers, and administration. Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive experience for students.
