Implementing Data Driven Decisions Having High Expectations Creating a safe Social-Emotional Learning Environment Job Summary The primary role of a Head Coach is to coordinate, organize, and promote a comprehensive sporting program designed to meet the needs and interests of the school; to provide effective leadership that will enhance the learning environment for students by providing effective, personalized attention; engaging in appropriate instructional and behavioral support; and, modeling ?The Excellent Way? with respect, responsibility, and being reflective. The Community School athletics programs are designed to offer our students the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities that complement and integrate the school?s mission. The Head Coach is responsible for supporting the Community School of Excellence students with dedication, enthusiasm, adaptability, kindness, passion, and energy. Much of the work of a Head Coach consists of student supervision and behavior management in large group settings, as well as providing instruction on the proper methods, rules, and regulations of extracurricular activities. The Head Coach is employed at-will and operates as a professional within the guidelines established by the Community School of Excellence. In cooperation with school staff and volunteers, the Head Coach works to fulfill the school?s mission in the following areas of responsibility: Requirements Have or be willing to obtain MSHSL head coaching certification. Have experience as a head coach, Coaching experience preferably in Track & Field Knowledge of the Minnesota High School League Rules Key Responsibilities 1. Program Leadership Develop the annual track and field program. Establish program philosophy, expectations, and goals. Develop a practice and competition plan. Coordinate with the Activities Director. 2. Coaching Staff Supervise and coordinate assistant coaches. Assign coaching responsibilities by event area. Ensure coaches understand CSE expectations and safety procedures. 3. Student-Athlete Development Teach appropriate techniques for running, jumping, throwing, conditioning, and competition. Develop individualized goals when appropriate. Monitor student-athlete progress. 4. Practices Plan and supervise practices. Provide appropriate warm-up, conditioning, skill development, and recovery activities. Adjust practices for weather, facilities, student needs, and safety. 5. Competitions Coordinate meet entries. Prepare lineups and event assignments. Supervise athletes at meets. Ensure athletes understand competition expectations and rules. 6. Safety & Injury Prevention Follow CSE and MSHSL safety requirements. Monitor environmental conditions. Respond appropriately to injuries. Communicate injuries and concerns according to school procedures. 7. Equipment Maintain track and field equipment inventory. Ensure equipment is properly stored. Request replacement or additional equipment through established procedures. 8. Academic & Behavioral Expectations Monitor academic eligibility. Address attendance and behavior concerns. Reinforce student-athlete expectations. 9. End-of-Season Complete equipment inventory. Return uniforms and equipment. Complete postseason recognition and awards. Conduct a season evaluation. Recommend program improvements for the following season.
