Founded in 1858, Shattuck St. Mary?s School (SSM) is an Episcopal, co-educational, college preparatory, independent boarding/day school serving 400 students in grades 6th-postgraduate from 39 states and over 22 countries. Set on a beautiful 250-acre campus south of Minneapolis/St. Paul in Minnesota, SSM offers a mix of traditional and progressive education. PURPOSE: SSM is seeking an Assistant Director to support the continued development and growth of its BioScience Signature Program and help strengthen its recognition as a distinctive, nationally recognized secondary-school health science program. The BioScience Program provides motivated students who are interested in science and health-related careers with guidance, mentorship, intellectual challenge, and unique opportunities to explore their interests beyond the traditional classroom. In addition to their core academic coursework, BioScience students devote two class periods each day to the program. Through specialized coursework, hands-on laboratory and clinical experiences, individual research projects, interactions with professionals in science and medicine, and regular field trips, students deepen their understanding of the health sciences while exploring potential educational and career pathways. The Assistant Director?s responsibilities will include teaching and refining curriculum for four courses per day in Human Anatomy, Bioethics, Public Health, and Laboratory Science. In addition, the Assistant Director will co-teach the Research Methods/Independent Project course for one period each day. Responsibilities for this course will include meeting regularly with non-senior students and mentoring them as they develop, conduct, and complete their individual research projects. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with the planning and chaperoning of BioScience field trips, several of which involve overnight travel, serving as the Faculty Advisor for SSM?s chapter of HOSA?Future Health Professionals, and working with our Marketing and Communications Department and Admission Office to help promote the program and recruit new students by actively maintaining the program?s social media presence. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who is excited to teach, mentor students working on independent projects, and develop curriculum in a boarding school environment. Candidates with experience in clinical, research, academic, or a science-related business setting who are looking to make a career change are welcome. Starting pay is $60,000 plus room and board, final salary offer based on experience and education CANDIDATE PROFILE: PhD, MD, or equivalent preferred. Experience teaching in a classroom setting and/or mentoring and coaching students. Energetic and enthusiastic individual interested in teaching and working in an innovative educational environment. Excellent formal and informal presentation skills. Experience in writing and submitting scientific journal articles. Experience in identifying, writing, and submitting grant proposals. Must love science.
