The Instructional Coach will possess the skills and experience necessary to serve as an exemplary instructional leader.
His/her role will be to train team members and provide feedback,
The Instructional Coach will assist teachers in improving skills and increasing student achievement by leading job embedded staff development during team meetings, providing resources that align with individual goals, demonstrating model teaching, maintaining data team meeting records, and conducting Team Lead observations of staff for feedback and evaluation.
The Instructional Coach position is also designed to act as a Mentor/Coach of teachers within the organization
The Instructional Coach, but not be limited to such duties as:
- Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with the goals of STEAM Academy.
- Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by the school and measured by state of Minnesota accountability requirements
- Assist in the development of organizational goals and objectives consistent with the vision, mission, and values of the schools.
- Lead teachers and work collaboratively in developing a healthy school culture aligned with the vision.
- Analyze school-wide data to determine student needs, set goals based on analysis of the available student achievement data, and design, implement and monitor an action plan that aligns to the School Improvement Plan at least on a quarterly basis
- Plan standards-based, ongoing staff development for the school year
- Model best practices to help teachers implement them
- Facilitate use of available student achievement data to set individual student goals and action plans
- Facilitate use of the results of interim assessments to identify which concepts and skills students are finding most challenging and facilitate the sharing of ideas for helping students master them
- Monitor student achievement in all classes through analysis of interim assessment results
- Identify teachers achieving strong results and provide opportunities for them to share what works
- Design and implement interventions when classes are not making sufficient progress
- On a regular basis keep the Executive Director up to date on the academic progress, success, and needs at the school
- Create a culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students, and families.
- Ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, public, and property.
- Ensure an orderly learning environment.
- Evaluate, and develop teachers.
- Work with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement results.
- Ensure use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices.
- Implement data-driven instruction and lead discussions about student performance.
- Work with teachers to improve their teaching practices through coaching, professional modeling and collaborative planning.
- Provide high quality curricular training and resources to staff.
- Ensure consistencies in instruction and practice amongst teams of teachers.
- Monitor progress of all students.
- Mentor all teachers.
- Facilitate a compatible working relationship with the beginning teacher by discussing expectations and arriving at a mutual understanding about how best to work together.
- Visits the beginning teacher’s classroom to provide feedback, coaching and support.
- Models effective teaching techniques.
- Performs all other tasks and assumes such other duties as designed by Executive Director, designated Administrators and School Board members.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required for this position:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Current Minnesota Teaching License
- Previous experience in charter schools preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and assistant teachers
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations of students, staff and parents
