The Minnesota Department of Education defines a physically literate individual as someone who: * Learns the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities. * Knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of activities. * Participates in regular physical activity. * Strives to be physically fit. * Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle. Essential Functions: * Use the MN State Standards for Physical Education to plan classes and assess student progress * Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment. * Manage student behavior * Communicate effectively with other staff members * Maintain knowledge of best practices in physical education through professional development * Participate in weekly meetings and other staff training requirements Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Physical and Health Education or related field. * Valid Minnesota Teaching License applicable to the assignment area and grade level. Preferred Qualifications:. * Teaching experience at the age level of the open position. Physical Requirements: This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus. Lifting/moving required frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more. Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location. Position:  Physical Education Teacher - K-6 Elementary - Part Time


School: Discovery Woods School, Brainerd, MN 56401



Position Summary:  Teach physical education to students in grades K-6 with the Minnesota State Standards for Physical Education as a guide.  The Minnesota Department of Education defines a physically literate individual as someone who:

  • Learns the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.

  • Knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of activities.

  • Participates in regular physical activity.

  • Strives to be physically fit.

  • Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle.
