Job Description:
Forest Lake Area Schools is seeking qualified candidates to serve as a K-12 Literacy Instructional Coach and Special Projects Coordinator. This is a TOSA position that will report to the Director of Teaching & Learning. They will support the district’s focus on effective literacy instruction by providing professional development and coaching on an individual and group basis. They will also collaborate with other members of the teaching & learning team and principals to advance district/building initiatives, facilitate instructional review, and coordinate special projects.
Qualifications/Licensure:
* Current Minnesota license in Elementary Education or Secondary Education
* Master’s degree in education or related field is preferred
* Reading Certificate, and/or LETRS / Aspire Training is preferred
* Ability to work across academic departments and grade levels K-12
* Understanding of professional development needs for K-12 programs and departments, particularly in the area of research-based strategies in literacy instruction
* Minimum five years’ successful classroom experience with demonstrable student achievement results in literacy
* Thorough understanding of structured literacy and effective reading instruction and foundations in both elementary and secondary education
* Proven leadership skills and experience in facilitating and presenting to both large and small groups
* Experience using data in diagnostic programming and instructional planning
* Proven results from implementing best practices and research-based strategies in literacy instruction
* Experience with implementing Reciprocal Teaching/Close Reading, and small group instruction strategies in a classroom setting
* Experience with Benchmark Advance is preferred
* Demonstrated skill in using formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and positively impact student learning
* Ability to establish and maintain trusting, confidential, and supportive relationships with teachers to help them reflect on their practices
* Ability to foster collegiality and community among teachers through professional development
* Evidence of effective listening, written and oral communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills when working with staff, students, and community
* Ability to be independent and self-directed and take the initiative to research and plan next steps
* Proficiency with technology and technology systems
* Ability to work in a team setting
* Ability to encourage multiple perspectives and resolve conflicts as they occur
Responsibilities
* Coach teachers in effective instructional practices in literacy through observation, modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, and collaborative planning
* Work with teachers individually, in PLCs, and within grade level or data teams to provide instructional support and professional development in research-based strategies and best practices in literacy
* Provide ongoing professional development and support for the implementation of district-approved curricular resources,
* Provide ongoing professional development structured literacy and the Elementary Literacy Framework
* Provide ongoing professional development in Content/Disciplinary Literacy
* Assist teachers with the planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of literacy instruction for all learners
* Provide guidance, and support for department/grade level colleagues and PLCs around literacy strategies, interventions, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners
* Establish a relationship of trust and confidentiality with teachers
* Collaborate with classroom teachers to analyze Fast, MCA, and local assessment data
* Collaborate with school and district administration, teacher leaders, and teachers to support high-quality literacy instruction
* Partner with the schools’ professional development teams and principals to plan and facilitate professional development in literacy instructional strategies and best practices
* Plan and facilitate instructional review for PreK-12 Literacy/Language Arts and K-12 Social Studies to align instruction, assessment, and curriculum materials/resources with current state and/or national standards
* Support educators in modifying or augmenting existing coursework or developing new course content
* Plan and facilitate in-district professional development opportunities for educators on evidence-based strategies and instructional best practices
* Provide leadership on identified special projects through coordination, professional development, and facilitation support for district programming, including immersion, STEM, gifted/enrichment, Title I, new educator induction, technology integration, equitable instructional practices, etc.
