Regional STEM Specialist
Under the direction and guidance of SSC’s Manager of Strategic Partnerships, this position is focused on developing STEM-related opportunities for school districts throughout the 11-county region of southeast Minnesota.
This role supports the effective coordination of the STEM Forward program, ensuring value for participating schools and partners. In addition, this position fosters long-term relationships with fostering collaboration between education, industry, non-profits, and community partners to achieve a strong regional STEM support system. Key responsibilities include regional and statewide networking and STEM advocacy and engaging with local employers, community organizations, and educational institutions to build partnerships that support STEM opportunities. In addition, this position organizes and executes events, supports professional learning for educators, provides expertise and resources, facilitates the sharing of best practices, and advances high-priority initiatives.
This position is primarily hybrid, with required travel to Rochester for regular meetings.
STEM Forward Program Management: This position will have primary responsibilities related to the ongoing coordination of Southeast Service Cooperative’s STEM Forward program.
* Relationship and Partnership Development: Establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships. Ensure that STEM Forward partners perceive the value of their membership and actively use the services available. Develop new relationships while advocating for STEM education and maximize partnership opportunities on behalf of STEM Forward members.
* Event Planning: Plan and execute one Educator Forum annually, the STEM Day at the Olmsted County Fair, the STEM Forward Annual Awards Dinner. Oversee the annual STEM Educator of the Year award selection process.
* Program Coordination: Negotiate and execute consultant contracts, annual partner agreements, and member billing. Coordinate scheduling and logistical needs for meetings and events. Facilitate advisory groups and committees. Coordinate communications amongst stakeholders and ensure effective marketing and promotion of events and meetings. Maintain participation records and issue documentation. Coordinate additional STEM-related initiatives as appropriate (e.g. DEED robotics grant, STEM internship program). Manage workflow and delegation of tasks to support staff. Authorize program expenditures and monitor budget.
* Lending Library Coordination: Manage the logistics for member usage of SSC’s Virtual Reality Headsets, We Share Solar Suitcases, and Mobile Science Labs.
* Program Growth and Development: Identify service delivery strategies and resource allocation. Champion new STEM-related collaborative opportunities and secure resources, grants, and sponsorships as needed. Recruit and support new schools and new partners to become involved in STEM Forward. Regularly assess the needs of STEM Forward districts and collect other relevant data to inform strategic decisions about priorities for the program.
* Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain metrics to measure success and growth. Collect feedback from program participants and stakeholders and implement ongoing improvement efforts.
MN STEM Ecosystem Regional STEM Coordination: Represent SSC as a Regional STEM Coordinator to liaison with the MN STEM Ecosystem Director to coordinate efforts to a) increase collaboration across public and private STEM sectors and stakeholder groups, b) coordinate and leverage regional leadership that ensures excellence in STEM education, afterschool and summer learning, and workforce development, c) build awareness and excitement for STEM and public appreciation of its importance to Minnesota’s future, and d) advance policy and systems alignment solutions that improve STEM pathways, coordination, and learning.
SciMathMN: As assigned, support SSC’s service contract with SciMathMN to provide Executive Director services that support SciMathMN’s mission and enhance its operational effectiveness. Responsibilities are determined collaboratively based on staff expertise and individual strengths and experience. This position may be tasked to coordinate any of the following contract deliverables:
* Strategic Leadership and Operational Excellence: Develop and implement a strategic plan aligned with SciMathMN's mission and vision; oversee all aspects of organizational operations, including board management, fiscal management, program development, administrative functions, and human resources; and ensure efficient resource utilization, legal compliance, and stakeholder relationship management.
* Fundraising, Communication, and Advocacy: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy; serve as SciMathMN's primary spokesperson; and execute communication and marketing strategies to build brand awareness and advocate for STEM education policies.
* Program Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Oversee the successful implementation and evaluation of key programs and initiatives; identify new program opportunities; and build and maintain strong relationships with educators, policymakers, business leaders, and community partners.

Serve as a liaison with external partners and industry representatives to develop and promote partnership opportunities in career-connected learning experiences and pathways. Curate and communicate opportunities within the region related to STEM learning. Coordinate and support the activities of advisory committees, develop strong industry partnerships, cultivate sponsorship opportunities, and support fundraising efforts to support career-connected learning initiatives. Provide regional support for educators and employers to connect them with available resources for professional development/training on work-based learning. Participate in regional and statewide career-connected learning networks and related groups.
* Event Planning: Work in cooperation with colleges, employers, and school staff to support and execute large career-connected learning events. Perform marketing duties, including writing social media posts, articles, and other promotional materials to effectively communicate event details and engage the community. Facilitate dialogue to encourage inter-district collaboration around such events.
* Program Coordination: Liaison with partner organizations and member schools to maximize resources and align work. Explore innovative inter-district collaborative opportunities to STEM programming, identify potential barriers, facilitate problem-solving, and recommend potential internal systemic changes to support fresh, innovative ideas. Maintain and grow best practice knowledge of STEM-related career-connected learning and pathway development. Evaluate STEM programs in other school districts to determine fit and potential replication opportunities. Support school districts, both independently and collaboratively, to align and focus STEM efforts and activities for maximum impact. As feasible, develop consistency across districts.

Education and Experience Required: Post-secondary education and a minimum of three years of relevant experience is required. Background in program development, partner engagement, career pathways, work-based learning and/or school planning is preferred. A background check will be performed, and a valid driver's license with a clean record with the ability to transition between multiple work locations on a regular basis is required.
