RESPONSIBILITIES
* Perform necessary diagnostic activities for special education students.
* Develop an individualized educational program for students based on needs identified by diagnosis and assessment.
* Follow necessary due process procedures.
* Be an advocate for students and assist in carrying out department and school district goals.
* Collaborate with other specialists and outside agencies.
* Plan initial special education assessment addressing student's educational needs and State criteria for eligibility.
* Organize meetings between staff and families to complete a special education assessment.
* Assess students' educational needs and eligibility for special education services through standardized and norm-referenced tests and observations following special education criteria and district procedures.
* Complete special education assessment in a timely manner.
* Consult with families regarding procedures and criteria for special education assessment.
* Provide information to families regarding outside agencies, as needed.
* Plan student's transition from assessment to special education services.
* Provide support and consultation to the school district's preschool programs.
* Observe and record behavior concerns and strategies used.
* Report observations of students' development to staff and families.
* Supervise and train classroom paraprofessionals.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Current Minnesota teaching license in early childhood special education.
* Knowledge and experience in the area of early childhood special education.
* Ability to provide academic, social, adaptive, and inclusive programming and support.
* Experience working with preschool children, particularly those with emotional and behavioral difficulties.
* Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
* Can work with teams.
* Uses active listening skills.
Salary:
$40,788 - $75,671 - Based on the Le Sueur-Henderson Education Associations Master Agreement.
