JOB SUMMARY:
Provides leadership, long-range planning, management, and support in all areas of information technology for the district. This includes the planning, development, implementation, management and maintenance of all applications, infrastructure, security, networks, technology training, as well as comprehensive support for the teaching and learning activities of the staff and students.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership/ Management:
1. Administers the school district’s technology system and operations in conformity with the adopted policies of the Board, state and federal laws and regulations, and all other laws and regulations.
2. Facilitates the development and implementation of the district technology strategic plan.
3. Aligns department goals and work with the district vision and strategic plan.
4. Develops and implements the long-range district technology plan.
5. Supervises and coordinates district technology operations and staff.
6. Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
7. Provides supervision and evaluation of technology staff through the performance evaluation process outlined by the district. Documents deficiencies and proficiencies through qualitative and quantitative data sources, provides timely formal and informal feedback on strengths and weaknesses, and provides support and resources for staff to improve job performance.
8. Conducts regular staff meetings, attends operations meetings, and keeps staff informed of building and/or district changes.
9. Establishes standard procedures for evaluation, use, and support of technology, including hardware, operating software, and applications.
10. Oversees technology policy development for the district.
11. Explores alternative sources of funding for technology and assists in writing grants for technology funding.
Communication / Liaison:
1. Communicates with local, state, and national organizations, institutions and agencies involved with technology in schools.
2. Develops and maintains professional working relationships with staff, students, administrators, school board members, and the public.
3. Communicates technology related activities in a timely manner to all stakeholders.
4. Coordinates staff development activities in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to promote effective use of technology.
5. Attends School Board and committee meetings as directed, prepares presentations, and makes recommendations pertaining to issues that impact areas of responsibility.
6. Coordinates the activities of the district technology committee.
7. Serves as liaison for technology services to the community, PTAs, and other groups.
Technical:
1. Oversees functioning of the technology operations of the district for the purpose of ensuring an effective, efficient, and safe environment, where technology equipment and applications are utilized appropriately and efficiently to support routine administrative and educational functions of the district.
2. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of systems.
3. Manages procurement, inventory and surplus of technology equipment, systems, and related services for the purpose of ensuring that all technology purchases for goods and/or services are consistent with the district’s technology objectives, and that equipment is properly inventoried or surplus consistent with local, district and state regulations.
4. Leads the selection of District technology information systems.
5. Maintains technology equipment and systems (e.g., servers, telephone systems, intercoms, alarms, surveillance cameras, software applications, network) for the purpose of ensuring that systems are functioning properly and effectively in support of district administrative and educational operations.
6. Supervises the maintenance of all district hardware and software.
7. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replaces defective components when necessary.
8. Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
9. Directs the development, coordination, and evaluation of network security, including disaster recovery.
10. Assists in planning the construction and renovation of district facilities.
11. Keeps current regarding innovations, trends, and standards in the area of technology.
Financial:
1. Develops and manages the district technology budget.
2. Negotiates with vendors regarding contracts, pricing, and implementation.
3. Approves all purchase orders for technology supplies and materials, computer equipment and software.
4. Researches outside funding opportunities and grants for the purpose of providing additional funding to enhance technology within the district.
5. Maintains accurate records of all technology budgeted expenditures.
Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer information systems, computer science, business, or related field.
● Five (5) years of experience managing an information-technology department and staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master’s degree in computer information systems, computer science, business, or related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Capable on a continuous basis of standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity and to hear.
2. Capable on a frequent basis of walking and moving, climbing stairs, lifting from floor to waist (up to #50), waist to shoulders (up to #25).
3. Capable on an occasional basis of pushing; pulling; lifting from shoulders to overhead (up to #10).
