The Secondary Teacher plays a central role in the academic, social-emotional, and character development of students in grades 7–12. Grounded in a commitment to educational equity and excellence, the teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-based instruction rooted in culturally responsive practices. This role requires proactive collaboration with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure each student thrives in a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Positive School and Classroom Culture
Establish and maintain a trauma-informed, anti-racist, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
Build strong, affirming relationships with each student and their family.
Implement clear expectations, consistent routines, and restorative behavior supports to ensure a safe and productive classroom.
Provide opportunities for joy, celebration, and student voice in the classroom community.
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver effective lessons aligned with state and district standards.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote student engagement and understanding.
Integrate technology and real-world applications into lessons.
Classroom Management
Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Set clear expectations for behavior and academic performance.
Implement consistent classroom management practices.
Assessment & Data Use
Develop and administer formative and summative assessments.
Analyze student data to inform instruction and interventions.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
Use school-wide data platforms and shared drives to organize instructional materials and share plans with instructional teams.
Student Support
Build positive relationships with students to support academic and personal growth.
Identify and support students with varying academic and social-emotional needs.
Collaborate with special education staff, social workers, and support personnel.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues.
Participate in team meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and school initiatives.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
Professional Responsibilities
Engage in ongoing professional development.
Stay current with best practices in education and subject-area content.
Adhere to school policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
School Culture & Community
Build a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.
Cultivate strong relationships with students and families, fostering joy, belonging, and trust.
Model and reinforce school-wide expectations, values, and restorative practices.
Support schoolwide events, family engagement nights, and community partnerships.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
Valid state teaching license for secondary education.
Strong knowledge of subject matter and instructional practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing restorative practices or SEL frameworks.
Experience integrating technology and multimedia into literacy instruction.
Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Full-Time
Salary: $48,331.20 - $85,900.16
