Description
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the principal has a critical role in overseeing the school’s academic program by providing instructional feedback to all academic staff. Additionally, the Principal must make strategic and executive decisions based on expectations aligned with overall school academic goals. The Principal will play a huge strategic role in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum and budgeting in a manner which ensures a culture of excellence throughout the school and where teaching, learning and healthy relationships thrive. The Principal is expected to play a critical role in providing each child with a well-balanced superior education which includes successful core subjects, a wide range of enrichment activities and quality experience which support personal student success.
The Principal must demonstrate a strong work ethic, as well as integrity and accountability in previous work experiences. The best Principal for this position is someone who can align themselves to our outcomes driven culture and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee community. The successful Principal will also have experience in a high performing fast paced environment.
Position Specifications
Supervision & Management
* Provide leadership and oversight of curriculum and progress of K-8
* Supervise and manage all academic staff - instructional coaches, teachers, EAs, Asst. Principals, counselors, and specialists
* Implement and perform performance evaluation and classroom observations for direct reports as well as provide mentoring, coaching, improvement plans, and disciplinary actions as needed
* Regularly meet with staff to ensure work plans are meeting outcomes and expectations
* Conduct consistent formal and informal observations of all direct reports and provide feedback as needed
* Lead academic leadership meetings and provide leadership support to PLCs and other academic leadership meeting
* Lead overall school academic success & strategies and work to ensures that academic benchmarks are on target as set by the Executive Director or the Authorizer on an annual basis
* Identify necessary resources and trainings to enhance the professional development of all teachers
* Implement education vigor across the entire school
Compliance
* Ensure that all curriculums designed are compliant and aligned with standards including the Hmong programs
* Implementation of School-wide improvement plan and educational strategies to ensure that growth targets are met for each student
* Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure students are on target with their goals
* Manage the discipline throughout the school and ensure that students and staff follow all policies and procedures
Data/Reporting
* Build deep understanding of data and implement strategies for classroom data integration
* Review classroom, school, local, and state data and incorporate into daily implementation of work plan based on changes needed to be implemented
* Share and disperse pertinent and important data to staff and ensure they understand the importance of data. Advise, strategize, and execute plans to meet data expectations when necessary
* Evaluate school programs and curriculum annually to ensure that it aligns with MDE expectations
* Track and generate academic reports to share with CEO, Executive Director and the board of directors
Leadership
* Provide strategic leadership for school development and management including establishing priorities, identifying annual objectives and long range goals for the instructional, extracurricular and other programs which support student learning and staff development consistent with the school’s mission and values
* Work directly with the CEO, Executive Director to ensure that decisions are align with the direction of the board and authorizer
* Manage the relationships between students’ success and parent involvement in students’ education
* Serve as the main point of contact for parents and families
* Formulate philosophy and school policies to align with the Mission and Vision of the school
* Review, analyze and re-evaluate curriculums, policies & practices on an annual basis for refinement
* Work with the CEO, Executive Director on the budget as needed
Education and Experience
* B.A./B.S. required with a degree in Education, Education Leadership, Management or Business Administration. Preference given to someone who has a M.A/M.S.
* 12 years of educational leadership experience with seven years of teaching/curriculum designing experience.
* High level of self-start motivation and capacity to manage and conduct multiple priorities
* A positive outlook on life and an enthusiastic “can-do” servant attitude
* Must have excellent writing, editing, and power point and verbal presentation skills
* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including social media and presentation skills; must be able to proofread and edit work from all levels and functions of the organization.
* Ability to maintain confidential, sensitive, proprietary, and other private information
* Ability to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy, diplomacy, discretion, professionalism and independent judgment
* Must have strong organizational skills and proficiency in contemporary office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets etc.
* Consistently demonstrate ability to professionally and calmly respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs and complete assignments within a well-established – and often – short-time frame
* Ability to write reports and correspondences, and respond to common inquiries or complaints – whether verbally or in writing
