Your Job: As a School Social Worker at Hennepin Schools, you would work with a dynamic Middle School team to create and maintain classrooms that support our mission to:

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

This position is part time Special Education and Part Time General Education and reports to the 5-8 Assistant Director/Principal:

 

As part of the Special Education Team:

· Conduct an evaluation to discover social-emotional needs and use the findings in the development of a FBA or functional behavior assessment or Behavioral Intervention Plan;

· Participate as a member IEP Team (Individualized Educational Planning Team)

· Write appropriate present level of performance statements with current data.

· Provide appropriate documentation of programs of goals and objectives;

· Provide direct services to students and/or parents as described in the IEP;

· Meet specific performance objectives developed jointly with immediate supervisor;

· Maintain confidentiality

· Other duties as assigned

As part of the Middle School Administration Team:

· Participate in the development of curriculum, strategies, and plans with particular emphasis on social-emotional behaviors;

· Participate on the pre-referral (Child Study) consultation team:

· Provide regular consultation to program staff and parents in matters pertaining to the social-emotional needs of students;

· Maintain, prepare and process the district’s required attendance documentation

· Provide support to school district during crisis events/situations;

· Provide in-service education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics related to research based practice in response to intervention, positive behavior support and appropriate interventions;

· Maintain professional competence in the field which may include attending and participating in professional organizations, workshops and conferences; reading professional journals and other related publications

· Maintain confidentiality

· Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications and Requirements:

· Valid state certificate as School Social Worker and K-12 School Social Worker license.

· Social work case reporting and writing skills

· Ability to counsel students, parents, and staff, individually and in groups.

· Excellent verbal and written expression.

· Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers.

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Knowledge and skills of the IEP process.

· Knowledge and skills working with students of color.

· Knowledge of the following computer applications: Smartboard Notebook, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

· Ability to maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background and MN disciplinary incidence research

· Highly preferred bilingual or multilingual, Spanish or Somali preferred
