Delano High School serves approximately 1200 students in grades 7-12 and is located approximately 30 miles west of the Minneapolis Metropolitan Area on Highway 12. Delano Schools encompasses the cities of Delano and Loretto and all or a portion of Corcoran, Independence, Medina, Maple Plain and Minnetrista. Delano Public Schools is an award-winning district with educational excellence as our foremost goal. In addition to academic excellence, Delano has enjoyed a long tradition of excellence in co-curricular activities that enhance the experience of our students outside the classroom. Delano has had a history of success in their activity programs. Our teams have achieved multiple Conference Championships and State Tournament appearances. Recent successes include Girls Volleyball (2023 State Runner-up), Girls Swimming, Boys and Girls Cross Country, all qualifying for State this fall. Our winter activities include a state tournament appearance for Dance, as well as having hockey and basketball teams ranked in the top 10 in the state. The Delano Schools community has been a strong supporter of activities as evidenced by the recent facilities improvements included in the recent 65 million dollar bond referendum. Position Summary: The Activities Director coordinates a comprehensive activities program to include athletics, the arts, and academic team activities for students in grades 7-12. The Activities Director will provide leadership that will foster a positive learning environment that promotes academic excellence. In addition, the Activities Director will provide assistance to the high school administrative team in the operation of a comprehensive secondary school program. Position Requirements: * Candidates must possess or be working toward an Education Administrator license. * Candidates must have five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience. * Preference will be given to candidates who have at least three years of head coaching experience and/or activities advisory experience. Responsibilities and Expectations of the Position: * Organizes, administers and provides leadership for the overall activities program, including fine arts, academic competitions and athletic programs. * Serves as a member of the administrative team at the high school and district level * Works closely and reports to the high school principal regarding, but not limited to, student eligibility, MSHSL violations, and all other items that may involve due process. * Works closely with the Community Education Program, booster organizations and other community organizations in identifying common interests and fosters partnerships whenever possible. * Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, supervision and mentoring of all coaches and advisers. Conducts a yearly evaluation of head coaches. * Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the news media and community aware of the activities program. * Plans and supervises recognition programs for participants. * Maintains a physical presence at events in coordination with the HS administrative team. * Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all events and facilities associated with the activities program. * Hires officials, athletic trainers, security personnel and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home events. * Recommends and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of the activities program in accordance with district policy and MSHSL rules. * Communicates eligibility requirements to students and parents and monitors the eligibility status of student participants. * Administers financial aspects of the activities program * Organizes field and gym practice schedules. * Coordinates the maintenance of the athletic fields with buildings and grounds personnel. * Works with booster clubs (fine arts and athletic) in generating school spirit and support for the activities program. Serves in an ex-officio capacity on behalf of the school district to all organizations associated with the activities program. * Performs other tasks as assigned or necessary to meet the job goals.
