This special education evaluator position is in Big Lake Schools. Professional Skills: Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding special education evaluation procedures, ability to confidently lead meetings with 5-10 attendees, ability to prepare and compile accurate and thorough reports, effective communication with staff and parents, ability to work independently, organization skills, time management skills, and prioritization skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Scheduling evaluation planning meetings and leading these meetings in partnership with the school psychologist * Completing observations, student interviews, family interviews, teacher interviews, FBAs, transition assessments, and all other components of the evaluation previously completed by special education teachers * Ensuring that the evaluation is completed (follow up with parents, teachers, itinerants, etc.) with information from all team members and sent home by the 30 day deadline * Prior to finalizing the evaluation, meet with the assigned special education teacher and review the evaluation collaboratively and make agreed upon changes * Lead evaluation results meetings in partnership with the school psychologist when required * Answer any follow up questions parents may have regarding the evaluation in partnership with the school psychologist * File all paperwork related to the evaluation in the student's brown folder and upload signature pages to SpedForms Other functions of the job include but are not limited to: * Other duties as assigned Education Training and Experience Requirements: * Requires a minimum of a Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in special education and 1 year experience working as a special education teacher, including completing special education evaluations. License Requirements: * Certified teaching certificate from the State of MN in the required subject area. Technical: * Knowledge of child development theories and development stages and needs. * Knowledge of current trends, theories and technologies pertaining to learning and instruction. * Skilled in presenting complex materials and concepts in an understandable and grade appropriate manner. * Skilled in assessing and evaluating student performance and needs. Language: * Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, learning research, governmental regulations and district policies. * Ability to write reports, learning objectives, educational needs statements, observation write ups, etc. * Using and applying professional/technical concepts, principles and terminology. * Ability to work with parents, students, staff and other evaluation professionals over instructional needs, concerns or problems of the student and district. Mathematics: * Ability and skill in understanding, interpreting and applying mathematical concepts and/or statistical methods gained through professional and post secondary educational training. Human Relations: * Requires skill and persuasion in dealings with students, staff, parents, administrators and other educational professionals. Interactions require persuasion, instruction and working with others to gain cooperation and understanding of educational issues/needs. * Advises and makes recommendations to district administrators or committees concerning needs in the area of special education evaluation. Information Technology: * Understanding of basic office equipment and software used by the district in maintaining records and files (i.e. word processing software, student record databases). Physical Requirements: * The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties are generally performed in a typical classroom and/or office setting where there are minimal environmental hazards and risks. * Employee may be exposed to some disagreeable conditions, depending upon teaching assignment, involving human/student contact or use of some equipment that could cause injury (i.e. industrial equipment, ovens, burners, etc.). * Risks of injury and exposure can be minimized through risk management and proper safety procedures, methods and techniques. * Positions in this class typically involve: seeing, standing, talking, hearing, feeling and walking, and occasionally kneeling, crouching, stooping and reaching. * Physical requirements associated with performing the requirements of the job can be generally characterized as light in nature characterized by exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Date of Availability: School Year 24-25

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, the special education evaluator participates in evaluation planning meetings, completes portions of student special education evaluations, participates in evaluation results meetings, and files evaluation paperwork. This special education evaluator position is in Big Lake Schools. 

Professional Skills:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling evaluation planning meetings and leading these meetings in partnership with the school psychologist
  • Completing observations, student interviews, family interviews, teacher interviews, FBAs, transition assessments, and all other components of the evaluation previously completed by special education teachers
  • Ensuring that the evaluation is completed (follow up with parents, teachers, itinerants, etc.) with information from all team members and sent home by the 30 day deadline
  • Prior to finalizing the evaluation, meet with the assigned special education teacher and review the evaluation collaboratively and make agreed upon changes
  • Lead evaluation results meetings in partnership with the school psychologist when required
  • Answer any follow up questions parents may have regarding the evaluation in partnership with the school psychologist
  • File all paperwork related to the evaluation in the student's brown folder and upload signature pages to SpedForms

Education Training and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in special education and 1 year experience working as a special education teacher, including completing special education evaluations.
