Job Title: Teacher Accountability: Building Principal Job Summary: Instructs and provides developmentally appropriate educational opportunities to students that develop intellectual, emotional and social skills needed to foster life long learning and productive citizenry. Major Areas of Accountability: * Develops and plans instructional activities * Develops lesson plans and/or individual educational plans. * Develops student tests and evaluates results. * Determines student grades for instructional units. * Researches topics, materials and information to improve instructional materials and information. * Conducts classroom instruction based on established lesson plans or instructional units. * Develops and determines methods, approaches and instructional aids to present materials. * Reinforces materials previously presented in the classroom. * Determines grades for reporting purposes. * Monitors student performance and behavior. * Evaluates student behavior to determine appropriateness and how to deal with behavior issues. * Professional responsibilities * Participates in parent/teacher conferences. * Interprets student strengths, wekanesses and/or problems that child may be experiencing in the classroom. * Participates in meetings, such as: building staff meetings, department meetings, grade level meetings, staffings, pre K-12 curriculum meetins, staff development meetings, open houses, and others as needed. * Supervises students during the school day according to the established building supervision schedule as well as indirect supervision at all times during the school activities and regular school days. * Collaborates with other staff in evaluating individual student issues, approaches to instructional units and new teaching technologies or procedures available. * Attends professional development activities and assists in identifying areas for further growth and development. Critical Skills/Expertise: * Physical Involvement: * Vitality to accomplish numerous tasks and processes. * Extended periods of standing when teaching or leading an activity. * Extended periods of sitting during meetings and deskwork. * Bending, stooping or sitting on the floor to perform classroom activities or to provide one to one assistance. * Repetitive motion keyboarding activities for classroom preparation or grading. * Ability to travel between buildings, within the buildings and work areas. * May lift equipment or supplies typically not to exceed 25 pounds. * Mental Involvement: * Working with many students who have varying levels of abilities and skills. * Ability to work with interruptions, handle multiple tasks, and organize and prioritize work assignments. * Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills needed in dealing with students, parents and colleagues. * Taking initiative to explore new activities and ideas to enhance student learning. * Working Conditions: * Classroom setting in a school building with little exposure to extreme weather conditions (unless job related such as physical education). * Supervision of Other Employees: * Generally does not include the supervision of other teachers. * Provides direction to instructional assistants within the classroom setting. * Communicates with special education staff to assure appropriate programming for special needs students within the classroom setting. Minimum Qualifications: * Education: * BA or BS degree required. * Teaching license issued by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board in the area of teaching assignment. * Experience: * Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required. * Special knowledge or skills: * Ability to constantly make decisions and act within the district and building policies, procedures and guidelines. * Ability to meet the needs of diverse learners, deal with classroom management, paperwork and implement district, state and federal mandates.
