K-8 Physical Education Teacher- Star of the North Academy

Work Day/Year: Full-time, 1.0 FTE, Physical Education Teacher
Star of the North Academy is a public K-8 charter school focused on closing the achievement gap. We seek to create a K- 8 school experience for young scholars that empowers them with knowledge, character, and leadership skills.
Summary:
A Physical Education teacher instructs students on healthy living, exercise and physical fitness. S/He organizes and supervises athletic activity during class and instructs students on proper exercise routines and technique. This position reports to the executive director.
Responsibilities:
* Instruct students in physical education activities
* Plan physical education programs to promote development of student's physical attributes and social skills.
* Prepare lesson plans and conduct daily classroom instruction in physical education/health at an appropriate instructional level
* Maintaining a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as instruction
* Monitoring and management of students’ behavior, including appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
* Teach individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students.
* Organize, lead, instruct, and referee indoor and outdoor games, such as volleyball, baseball, and basketball.
* Teach and demonstrate proper calisthenics for individuals or groups in both beginning or advanced.
* Following professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students’ records, parents and colleagues
* Maintaining a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and students
* Work with students, parents, and Impact Coaches to resolve student problems.
* Select, store, order, issue, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education programs.
* Providing adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
* Maintaining accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
* Work as a positive and collaborative member of the Athletic Program to foster the primary goals of school and the Athletic Program
* May specialize in instructing specific sports, such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, or swimming.
* Incorporate and promote a positive environment for all student athletes that nurtures self-esteem, high values, and life-long learning
* Complying with conditions as stated in employee contract and handbook
* Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
* The minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
* A valid Minnesota Teacher's License
* Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
* Teaching experience in diverse cultural settings is valued.
Compensation:
Star of the North Academy's salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience. In addition, Star of the North Academy offers a benefits plan that includes medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, Sick time, and other incentives.
