Visitation School seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible (1.0 FTE) Upper School Dean of Student Life (Dean) beginning August 2024. The Dean will foster positive student relationships and culture, inspire young women&#8217;s leadership, oversee conduct and discipline, work as an integral member of the Student Assistance Team, and oversee safety and security for the entire school. The Dean reports to the Director of Upper School. Visitation is an independent Catholic day school with a culture permeated by Salesian Spirituality. We offer a unique combination of learning experiences with a co-ed Lower School (Montessori preschool through grade 5), an all-girls Middle School (grades 6-8), and an all-girls Upper School (grades 9-12). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * A commitment to the mission and values of Visitation School * Serve as a role model in all actions, both verbal and non-verbal, in alignment with Salesian philosophy (reflecting gentle strength, dignity, patience and Christian humanism) and spirit of the School. * Provide day-to-day supervision of Upper School students' conduct and discipline. * Review and update the Student Handbook in collaboration with Lower and Middle Schools. * Collaborate with the Student Council Advisor on Upper School Assemblies and other student life programming * Collaborate with the Director of Upper School on student-led activities, convocations and advisory programming. * Be a visible presence around the school and grounds during the school day * Serve as the Upper School Sexual Harassment Officer. * Consult with Lower, Middle and Upper School Directors to ensure consistency with discipline matters. * Serve as an essential member of the Student Assistance Team. * Serve as advisor to the Student Leadership Group and assist in the development of the student programming. * Facilitate Ninth Grade and New Student Orientation * Coordinate the development of the master school year calendar with the Division Directors and Head of School. * Organize, plan and execute events that include but are not limited to dances, school-sponsored events, guest speakers and future events. * Attend and chaperone student events such as retreats, dances, plays, athletic events, wakes and funerals. * Develop, update and oversee student attendance and student release procedures with the Assistant to the Dean of Student Life. * Oversee campus-wide safety and security. * Serve as an integral part of the student assistance team, supporting the social-emotional health of students alongside counselors as well as assisting to track students&#8217; academic progress. * Create student academic support plans for students who have long-term illnesses or concussions and partnering with the athletic department and health office on the school&#8217;s concussion protocols. Supervisory Responsibilities * Direct Reports include: Assistant to Dean of Student Life and Evening Security * Conduct annual performance appraisals for direct reports. * Ensure direct reports understand their role and responsibilities. Provide training and coaching as needed. * Adjust staff workflow responsibilities as appropriate when short of staff or as other demands may dictate. Provide assistance and support to staff when needed. Other Duties * Assist the Director of Upper School in creating the supervision schedule for the Upper School faculty/staff * Train new US staff members regarding discipline policies and forms. * Ability to work evenings and weekends for scheduled events * Miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as needed by management * Address all issues and concerns in a forthright, respectful and equitable manner. Keep the Upper School Director informed of issues and concerns. The ideal candidate will have an Advanced Degree in Education or educational administration. Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience in grades 9-12. Minimum three to five years in a Dean role or equivalent in a supervisory/leadership role. The Dean must have a passion for working with high school students, particularly young women. Strong verbal, written and listening skills that are welcoming, friendly and supportive are required. Proven commitment to confidentiality, exercise discretion and high professional ethical standards. The Dean must be able to demonstrate organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking. High proficiency with technology, Google Suite is preferred. This role requires occasional evenings and weekends.
