Program Description: The Charter School Residency Program, a partnership between Academia Cesar Chavez School and the University of St. Thomas, is an accelerated teacher preparation program designed for Academia Cesar Chavez School unlicensed employees and our community partners. This rigorous and innovative teacher preparation program combines intensive clinical experience with graduate-level coursework. Residents co-teach with a highly effective licensed teacher in a classroom while taking graduate level coursework as a cohort. Upon completing this 15-month program, residents will earn their teaching license in K-12 ABS (Academic Behavior Strategist) Special Education or Elementary Education (K-6). This is a dual membership program. You are applying at the University of St. Thomas and at the charter school to comply with the Charter School Residency Program application process. If you no longer work in the charter school, you are not a member of the Charter School Program. Benefits of participating in the program: * Receive a minimum $31,500 living wage/ salary and are eligible for district benefits during the program * Co-teach with a highly effective Special Education teacher or Elementary Education teacher (license specific) for entire school year Minimum Qualifications: You are eligible to apply if you: * Have experience working with students and families, preferably in a school setting. * Have completed or will successfully complete a Bachelor's degree program by May 2023 from a regionally accredited institution. * Desire to earn initial teaching license in Special education or Elementary Education. * A commitment to serve as a full-time teacher in a high needs licensing area for a total of not less than three academic years immediately after successfully completing the teaching residency program. Candidates experienced or invested in educational equity for all, cultural diversity and/or linguistic diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
