The Preschool Assistant is responsible for assisting the Teacher in providing social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth opportunities to preschool aged students.
Responsibilities
1. Assists the Teacher with daily activities, including story time, songs, art/math/science projects and snacks.
2. Ensures responsive communication with parents/guardians in all aspects of their children’s wellbeing.
3. Documents any injuries or incidents.
4. Adheres to all preschool program policies and procedures, laws and regulations as applicable.
5. Greets parents and welcomes children and makes them feel comfortable at the beginning of class.
6. Assists with parent pickup/child exit at the end of class.
7. Assists with creation of bulletin boards and parent information boards.
8. Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Early childhood education (preferred)
• Meets MN licensing standards to qualify for Assistant. See full requirements at: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/9503.0033/
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Experience working with children under six years old (preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to complete certification within 30 days of hire
• Strong work ethic and ability to adhere to all childcare protocols and health/safety standards and procedures
• Patient, reliable, and responsible team player
• Desire and ability to interact and assist with the development of preschool-age children
• Ability to communicate effectively and responsively with fellow staff members and parents/guardians
• Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity

· Computer
· Telephone
· Office equipment such as copier, printer, fax, etc.
· Paper cutter

· Attention to safety standards, procedures, and practices
· Attentiveness and responsiveness to children/parents or guardians
Physical Requirements
· Bending, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and running
· Ability to differentiate between colors and shades and colors
· Ability to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
Working Conditions
· Indoor, sometimes outdoor environment
· Often noisy environment
· Exposure to environmentally safe cleaning chemicals
· Exposure to flu/colds
