Math and Science Academy is hiring for a Health Education Teacher to start in August 2024. Our Teachers are accountable for planning, organization, and implementation of an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Required: Minnesota teaching license in 5-12 Health. MSA will support a teacher waiver for the most qualified candidate, if necessary. Classroom Instruction * Promotes the MSA Mission and Vision in all communications and interactions. * Embodies MSA Core Values in daily activities. * Attends IEP meetings as requested. * Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. * Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures. * Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. * Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. * Treat all students in an equitable manner. * Maintain a current website for all classes. * Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. * Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of MSA. * Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, school policies, and regulations. * Utilizes proper students&#8217; preferred pronouns and name(s) in class and when communicating with parents/guardians. * Provide timely feedback to students on all assigned work. * Prepare required reports on students and activities. * Participate in department, school, and parent meetings. * Communicate information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs. * Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. * Prepare the classroom for class activities. * Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. * Observe and evaluate student&#8217;s performance and development. * Assign and grade class work, homework, test and assignments. * Comply with all 504 and Individualized Education Program (IEP) accommodations and modifications for classroom students. * Collaborate with Educational Assistants on behavioral and academic areas of concern for students they support. * Supply academic updates on students as requested by the 504 Coordinator or Case Manager in a timely manner. * Prepare a yearly budget for classroom resources. 1. Additional functions: * Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds. * Attend and participate in 8 am Wednesday staff meetings. * Encourage parent and community involvement. * Obtain information for parents when requested. * Promptly return phone calls and respond to emails. * Participate in appropriate professional development activities. * Monitor hallways before school, between class periods, and after school. * Participate as an active member in governance and service activities. * Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed. * Other duties as assigned. 3. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Physical Job Requirements: Physical requirements associated with the position can be best summarized as follows: * Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. * Duties are performed in a typical school setting. There are minimal environmental hazards and risks associated with the nature of the work.
