Professionalism, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach are essential when working with students receiving special education services to ensure their safety and growth and to help them understand and exhibit appropriate behaviors at school and in the community. The audiologist will be stepping into a team environment daily, where collaboration, communication, and adaptability are key to the success of the individual, the team, and the success of the students. The audiologist role is performed following District policy and State/Federal Laws. Job Summary: 1. Conducts formal hearing evaluations for students to determine eligibility for services; conducts informal assessments of auditory skills and reviews information provided by clinical audiologists. 2. Conducts middle ear monitoring and assists with medical referrals when necessary. 3. Conducts assessments to determine the need for using assistive listening devices; conducts fitting, programming and testing of the amplification devices. 4. Conducts classroom evaluations and observations to determine auditory functioning and access needs of deaf and hard of hearing students. 5. Manages assistive listening device inventory, troubleshoots and repairs equipment, and makes ear mold impressions. 6. Attends various meetings for student evaluation and individualized education programs. 7. Consults with health professionals, families, students and teachers regarding needs, assessments, evaluation and benefits of using assistive listening devices. 8. Conducts home visits for birth-to-three populations to monitor auditory skills development. 9. Maintains records related to service delivery and evaluation results. 10. Obtains and helps interpret medical reports regarding hearing and ear health. 11. Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications: 1. Must be licensed in Audiology through the Minnesota State Department of Health. 2. A clinical doctorate in Audiology (AuD), PhD in audiology, or a Master's degree in audiology prior to 2007, and moderate experience working as an audiologist. 3. ASHA certificate of clinical competence preferred. 4. Must be able to provide own reliable transportation to travel between various District 196 schools/sites each day. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in District 196 in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills * Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established time frames * Utilize effective data-based problem-solving skills * Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations * Comprehensive knowledge of medical records standards. * Comprehensive knowledge of applicable local, state and federal rules, regulations and mandates related to hearing and audiology testing. * Comprehensive skill creating and maintaining reports related to testing and assessment, evaluation and referrals. * Skill in finding and interpreting online and/or hardcopy equipment instructions for use and care of audiological test equipment, hearing aids, and other other hearing assistance technology. * Willingness and ability to work with students receiving a high-level of special education services. * Basic computer and email skills.
