Job Summary: * Supports the implementation and maintenance of the total school health program * Conducts vision and hearing screenings as needed * Collaborates with the Licensed School Nurse and Nursing Assistant regarding health programming needs * Supports the implementation of required health related trainings for employees (i.e. First Aid, BBP, Seizure, etc.) * Provides orientation for school personnel support the health and wellness of students at the building level * Assesses school health program needs, including the physical, emotional and environmental needs * Completes the administration of medications in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, and school district policy * Supports Health Education * Coordinates cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training sessions for school staff, as needed * Consults with school personnel regarding individual school and student health needs and training requirements * Works well with persons of different cultures, races, and socio-economic backgrounds * Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, school staff, parents, and outside agencies regarding students&#8217; needs, utilizing these linkages to develop effective school health and educational program components * Collaborate with parents, administrators, related service providers and others for the development of individual student plans * Provide emergency care, first aid and management of all illness and injuries in alignment with MTCS procedures * Assess injuries and notify the certified school nurse of injuries requiring medical care or immediate absence from school * Complete school accident reports as needed * Screen students who present symptoms of a communicable disease/condition and exclude them from school when necessary. * Receive and log in medications for students provided by parents * Provide health services as required for students having special medical needs * Maintain and update current health records * Notify parents/guardians of significant injuries, health concerns, vision, and hearing referral follow-ups * Other job related duties as assigned Qualifications: * Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with others, be polite, helpful, courteous and compassionate * Associates degree or 2-year Certification (in nursing preferred) * CPR/First Aid training or ability to obtain training * Licensed Practical Nurse certification in accordance with the Minnesota Board of Nursing preferred * Demonstrated public relations skills * Ability to develop professional working relationships with other district employees * At least one year of experience in a nursing setting preferred * Previous experience in school-based nursing preferred * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing * Ability to follow directives from supervisors * Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times * Ability to travel, using personal vehicle, between sites throughout the work day The duties of this position may change from time to time.
