Lead Woods Counselor As the Lead Woods Counselor, you not only have the responsibilities of being a Woods Counselor, but also you will serve as the mentor and guide to your team of three fellow Woods Counselors. Woods Counselors are the heartbeat of Star Lake Wilderness Camp! As a Woods Counselor, you not only create a safe environment, but you also create a space where campers are able to learn new skills, build friendships, and experience fun in nature. Camp Counselors work under the direct supervision of the Lead Counselor and Camp Manager to achieve Star Lake goals and objectives by delivering an enriching summer camp experience that helps campers build positive relationships, learn new skills, improve their self-esteem and develop healthy habits. Woods Counselors also receive program training in the Positive Youth Development Curriculum from the University of Minnesota, and will have opportunities to build leadership skills through designing camp programming, learning and teaching wilderness skills and working collaboratively on a Woods Counseling team. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Contribute to weekly staff meetings to support the success of the Camp and the Woods Counseling team * Join in camp set up and close out * Provide ongoing mentorship to the Woods Counseling team * Ensure safety and well-being of campers at all times * Sleep in the campsites with campers * Supervise campers so they are protected from any unreasonable risk to their health or safety, including bullying, abuse or any public health hazard * Organize and supervise daily group activities according to schedule * Supervise campers during all activities, participate in activities with them, and encourage them to participate as much as possible * Facilitate mealtime; prepare food in campsite and ensure that all campers are eating their meals * Help to prevent dangerous situations by minimizing risks * Recognize and handle emergencies as per Star Lake Camp policies and procedures * Help campers grow and develop by providing positive reinforcement, guidance, support and care * Utilize positive and supportive techniques and strategies to resolve problems and enforce discipline among campers * Participate in pre-camp training * Participate in other camp activities as necessary * Other duties as assigned Qualifications: * Must be at least 18 years of age * Must have a High School or GED diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred * Excellent verbal communication skills * Exhibit qualities such as patience, kindness, honesty, responsibility, compassion, and desire to help others * Must be able to follow rules, guidelines, and policies enforced by the camp manager * Must be comfortable participating in all camp activities with the children and encouraging them to participate as well * Must be a team player * First Aid and CPR certification. Training will be provided * Available Sunday, June 30th - Friday, August 2nd Compensation: Starts at $500/week and is adjusted to match experience. Lead Woods Counselor
