CDF Freedom School Summer School Servant Leader Intern El Colegio Charter School is a public, tuition-free high school located in the vibrant and ethnically diverse Bancroft neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Mission: In community, El Colegio honors and builds upon the talents of bilingual students and their diverse families to provide the academic rigor, leadership skills, career preparation, and community connections necessary to fulfill their potential as change makers. Vision: Communities worldwide are transformed by the El Colegio experience of liberation. In addition to our mission and vision, we foster a space for healing and liberation through these four core values: Identity, Solidarity, Intellect, & Justice. Nature and Scope El Colegio and the Children&#8217;s Defense Fund (CDF) are partnered together to offer the CDF Freedom School program to promote and boost student motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes towards learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities. The program serves students for six weeks with an activity-based Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC), which is aligned with the Common Core State Standards, integrates reading, conflict resolution, and social action, and is designed to promote social, cultural and historic awareness. Responsibilities of the Position Programs Operations and Management * Serve as a positive role model for all students. * Supervise and maintain safety of students. * Maintain a professional decorum. * Set-up, manage, and break down classroom space according to standards outlined by CDF and El Colegio High School. * Engage a maximum of 10 students per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum and other enrichment activities. * Attend all required Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute training sessions. * Attend all local and site-based training as outlined by the Site Coordinator. * Work with site staff to ensure that all program components are implemented with fidelity. * Report any issues or concerns regarding program operation to the site coordinator. Minimum Qualifications * Strong personal connection with the mission, vision and core values of El Colegio and a desire to proficiently meet the responsibilities of the position. * Passion for being a part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. * Must have completed at least one year of college in good academic standing * Ability to motivate others and work as part of an intergenerational team. * Solid commitment to the success and well-being of children and youth. * Exhibit positive behavior and attitude, modeling a mature and professional demeanor. * Flexible and a self-starter. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualities * Experience working with English Language Learners and/or Dual Language Literacy. * Bilingual and/or bicultural. Student Day The El Colegio summer school programming runs Monday - Thursday from 8:30 - 2:30 pm and Friday&#8217;s 9-12pm. Compensation This position is an hourly position paid $22/hour through the 21st Century Grant.
