JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Specialist will support staff in grades K-8 to achieve the mission and vision statement of Cologne Academy. The Specialist will work directly with interventionists, fellows, and teachers providing collaborative interventions, hold data meetings, supervise instruction, manage interventions as well as track data of all students in K-8. The Specialist will provide instruction in literacy using best practices and the latest research based techniques. The Specialist will work with members of the administration and the leadership team to collect, analyze, and interpret data to guide instructional decisions.
The Literacy Specialist will report to the Executive Director, Elementary Principal, and the Literacy Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
1. Collect and analyze data using the research-based assessment and develop action plans in response to student needs.
2. Lead data meetings with grade level teams and determine next steps in teaching.
3. Supervise instruction through classroom observations, modeling best practices, classroom collaboration and lead ongoing professional development (PLC’s).
4. Research and provide strategies for a range of ability levels using effective literacy practices including, but not limited to; phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
5. Assist in creating and implementing a literacy progress monitoring system for grades k-8

Qualifications:
* 5+ years elementary classroom experience preferred
* MN teaching license as a Reading Specialist
* Deep knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development
* Able to navigate the Science of Reading
* Interpersonal skills including; communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration
* Strong organizational skills
* Progress monitoring
