We are a small school situated in central Minnesota, conveniently located one hour from St. Cloud, two hours from the Twin Cities, 30 minutes from Alexandria, and three hours from Duluth. Our area is rich in natural beauty, with numerous lakes and parks, and boasts one of the last Drive-In Movie theaters in Minnesota. Our community is diverse, comprising individuals from European, Mexican, Caribbean, and various other backgrounds. Fifty-two percent of our student body identifies as Hispanic, and we also have a vibrant Amish population in Todd County. We proudly serve the communities of Grey Eagle, Burtrum, and Long Prairie. As an Elementary Special Education teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing the academic success of students with special needs. Our school employs positive behavior supports to cultivate a favorable environment for both students and staff. We prioritize professional development, facilitated by a committee of teachers, providing opportunities for staff members to share their expertise. Additionally, we offer music, visual art, and physical education to all elementary students, promoting a holistic approach to education. Our family liaison plays a crucial role in supporting our Hispanic families, offering bilingual assistance when necessary. Our high-quality English Language Learner (ELL) program consistently exceeds the state average in meeting the goals of our English language learners. Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Elementary Special Education teacher maximizes the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing students' specific needs, and providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Essential Functions * Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend courses of action or corrective procedures. * Participate in PPTs and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students. * Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans. * Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions as needed. * Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs. * Serve as a resource to students and parents to provide counseling, act as a liaison between home and school. * Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field. * Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping systems. * Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents. * Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training. * Select and requisition appropriate materials and maintain inventory records. Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities * Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. * Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. * Knowledge of data information systems and analysis. * Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. * Ability to use computer network systems and software applications. * Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively. * Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. * Ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth. * Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Qualifications Profile * State Certification as an Elementary Special Education teacher preferred. * Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. * Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
