SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER Reports to: Principal Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide a clear, consistent structure that ensures that the academic, social, and emotional needs of each student are met within the guidelines of the Individual Educational Program (IEP) course work and the Treatment Plan. Responsibility: * Provide an individualized academic program to each student in classroom * Perform all duties related to the development of the IEP, i.e. assessment, goal setting, and implementation * Evaluate student progress as required by program * Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team * Work with and supervise the classroom Mental Health * Assistants to maintain a structured therapeutic learning environment * Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and support staff Job Requirements: * Current Minnesota SPED License * Three or more years experience in teaching Special Education * Ability to facilitate the group process, supervise people and work effectively with a team * A positive, adaptable, flexible, and high-energy person that can guide our students&#8217; transition to a less restrict environment * Ability to physically respond to physically active and aggressive children, adolescents, and young adults * Effective organizational skills * Effective oral and written communication skills * Valid Minnesota Drivers License * Clearance of TB test and any other state or federal requirements To apply for this position, Please submit your cover letter, resume, copy of current MN license(s), 3 professional references with contact information to lsommerville@urbanacademymn.org<mailto:lsommerville@urbanacademymn.org>.
