Description: Job Title: EL Coordinator Level: All Grades - 1st - 12th Classification: 0.4 FTE (Current program - Program size scale included below) Benefits Eligible: Depends on overall FTE - Benefits available over 30 hours a week Compensation: Commensurate with experience Licensure or Certification: Preferred Licensure Area(s): English as Second Language Reports to: Director of Student Services Starting Date: Fall 2024 General Job Description: The English Language Learner (ELL) program in District 4105 supports learners in acquiring the English needed to succeed in the classroom, in accordance with the State of Minnesota Guidelines and English Language Proficiency Standards. Instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing is provided by licensed ELL instructors for students whose first language is not American English. Paraeducators and specially trained teachers also support classroom instruction for ELL students. The EL Coordinator position scope is predicated on total program enrollment and size. Historically, the program has had between 15 and 20 students. Enrollment is determined by fall screening and schedules are established subsequently. The EL Coordinator position is generally combined with another role at Great River School, with priority toward the flexibility needed in the EL Program for growing enrollment potential and the fluctuations of testing season. Hours: 8:00 - 4:00 during school days, with some meetings extending past 4:00. One 25 minute lunch break during the day. Primary Work Strands: The work strands for the EL Coordinator are articulated in detail in the GRS ELL Plan of Service, and are summarized below Initial Screening and Parent Notification Screen all new students based on Family Language Questionnaire and prior school records Screening will take place during the first 30 days of the school year using the WIDA screener Use our rubric to determine whether a student qualifies for service per their WIDA score Use the template parent notification form to alert parents to WIDAs outcomes and whether the student will be offered EL Program services. English Learner Programs Once WIDA testing is complete and a roster is established, the EL program is established for the year The EL Coordinator works in collaboration with the Director of Student Services and Program Director to establish a schedule for students to work with the EL program, including whether they should plan to work individually or in small groups During the course of the school year, deliver EL support and services to students in coordination and collaboration with classroom guides. Annual Testing All students who qualified for EL services will take the ACCESS 2.0 for ELLs test in the winter testing window - generally February and March Test scores will be indicated on school records and used to update EL program services Students demonstrating sufficient progress may be exited from the program EL Documentation and Communication The EL Coordinator will maintain an annual roster that includes Students taking the WIDA test Students/families declining services Students enrolled in the EL program The EL Coordinator will communicate enrollment to the MARSS Coordinator for reporting Update the Vault to indicate students receiving EL services Update family following any changes to the intervention The EL Teacher will regularly meet and collaborate with the classroom teachers of the EL students. Behavior Support Along with all faculty members, the EL Coordinator is responsible for upholding school and level norms with students Behavior Tiers For addressed tier behaviors, the Interventionist uses Restitution practices to follow up with the student Tracked behaviors are also addressed with the student, and also documented on paper in the elementary office For bottom line behaviors, the Interventionist walkies for additional support Program size determination Great River will establish the size of the EL Program and subsequently the necessary FTE required to support the program. This is projected every spring after we complete ACCESS testing and survey families to determine who plans to return. The EL program is re-adjusted after the fall WIDA testing to ensure the Coordinator has adequate time to run the EL program. Scheduling is done in coordination with the EL Coordinator, Director of Student Services, Program Directors and other individuals as needed on the Leadership team. 1-15 = 30% FTE 16-25 = 40% FTE 26-35 = 50% FTE 36-45 = 60% FTE 46-55 = 70% FTE 56-65 = 80% FTE 66-75 = 90% FTE 76+ = 100% FTE Meetings, Key Experiences and Commitments Attending weekly Level Meetings only as requested During professional development and in-service days, coordinating with the Director of Student Services to determine whether to attend level or department meetings. The English Language Learner (ELL) program in District 4105 supports learners in acquiring the English needed to succeed in the classroom, in accordance with the State of Minnesota Guidelines and English Language Proficiency Standards. Instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing is provided by licensed ELL instructors for students whose first language is not American English. Paraeducators and specially trained teachers also support classroom instruction for ELL students.
