Grade 3 Renaissance Program Teacher, Washburn Elementary - Bloomington Public Schools

Bloomington Public Schools is the recipient of a 5-year federal Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program grant. The focus will be on increasing equity and access to gifted and talented programming for traditionally underrepresented students, including students of color, economically disadvantaged individuals, multilingual learners, and children with disabilities.
Bloomington Public Schools’ gifted and talented programs are designed to enhance the unique capabilities of gifted children and are highly regarded for offering opportunities to help academically and creatively gifted students continue to grow and be challenged. Current programming begins in second grade with multiple options through twelfth grade. This grant allows Bloomington Public Schools to continue to be an innovative leader in the field of gifted education.

Hours:
1.0 FTE
Required Qualifications:
Current MN Teaching License Elementary K-6
Preferred Experience:
• Work in schools with a diverse population of students, staff, families, and communities
• A background that includes shared life experience with the target population and/or demonstrated understanding of the creativity, strengths, and challenges of students who are often underrepresented in gifted programs
• Work with gifted and talented elementary students
• Minimum 5 years of classroom experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of assessment strategies, resources, and appropriately differentiated materials, curriculum, and instruction with an emphasis on creative and critical thinking skills
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for providing education to students so that intellectual, emotional, developmental, and social needs are supported and developed.
• Work closely with the gifted and talented department coordinators
• Collaborate with grade-level and gifted program teachers
• Participate in all Javits grant-supported trainings
• Attend local and national GT conferences
