Behavior Interventionist (STAR Program) - Cologne Academy (Western Carver County)

Cologne Academy is seeking a dynamic and highly energetic behavior interventionist to join the behavior intervention team that is a part of the District’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This position is focused on working with students in general education to implement positive behavior interventions and to prevent referrals to special education.
Reports To:
Executive Director and Assistant Special Education Director
Qualifications
* Experience working with children and youth with behavioral challenges
* Credentials could include: mental health technician, paraprofessional with documented experience in behavior oriented position, (registered) behavior technician, experience as a youth worker
* Successful candidates will be required to participate in behavior training prior to the start of the school year.
* Minimum two years of college coursework or Pass the Paraeducator Certification Test
Candidate Qualities

* Passionate about working with all students and staff
* Consistently models positivity
* Child centered approach
* Ability to be a positive, contributing member of school teams
* Excellent organizational and time management skills
Primary Responsibilities include the following:
* Participate with the team in teaching Social Emotional Learning classes in designated grades.
* Work directly with students who need assistance to be successful emotionally and behaviorally in a classroom or other school setting, including directing scheduled breaks
* Respond to student needs when they are sent to the STAR Room and and work toward successful return to the classroom
* Assist with reviewing the success of scheduled break plans (e.g., observe and consult with classroom teachers, complete self-regulation rubric) based on a review of data
* Support students by building relationships and teaching skills that will support positive outcomes
* Conduct student observations to assist in data gathering, follow up and needs determination
* Communicate with staff and students regarding students’ needs and behavioral progress
* Process situations with students and review core virtues and expectations to students
