Minimum Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED. * Must be bilingual in English and another identified language. * Experience working in a health care setting, residential care facility, or related experience. * Successful completion of first aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment. * Successful completion of medication training provided by the designated district staff member within 30 days and prior to performing related duties. * Successful completion of Vision and Hearing training within six months of appointment and prior to performing related duties. * Current EA Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Knowledge of children's health issues. * Knowledge of the physical, social, and emotional needs of students. * Ability to interact effectively with students, parents/guardians, and staff members representing diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. * Excellent communication skills. * Ability to assist parents/guardians in communicating with the school about their child&#191;s needs. * Ability to follow directions and/or guidance from the LSN * Ability to utilize computers to maintain records. * Ability to report information in an objective manner. * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Preferred Qualifications * Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medication Aide, Community Health Worker (CHW), or equivalent training program approved by Student Health and Wellness administrator. * College coursework in health, public health, child development, child psychology, or a related field. * Experience as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker (CHW), or related experience. Responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: * Follow protocols and written care plans to administer medication, treatments, and episodic care under the delegation and guidance of the LSN. * Provide first aide or CPR to students as needed. * Care for sick students within the Student Health and Wellness protocol of care; contact parents/guardians to pick up students from school as needed. * Report to families the results of student visits to the Health Office; notify families of expired medications. * Notify physical education teacher of activity restrictions required by students. * Manage student immunizations to meet school immunization laws by: 1. Gathering and documenting immunizations. 2. Communicating with parent/guardian in writing and through oral communication. 3. Providing information about community resources for obtaining immunizations. 4. Maintaining information in a database. 5. Identifying students delinquent in complying with the school immunization law. 6. Following up with families who do not have current proof of vaccination or a notarized statement of Conscientious Objection. 7. Under the direction of the LSN: * Prepare and conduct screenings for all students: Vision, hearing, height, and weight. Assist nursing staff with re-screening students as necessary. * Make home visits to assist with solving student health-related problems as necessary. * Distribute health information to families on communicable diseases. * Make follow-up contacts with parents/guardians when important health information has been sent home. 8. Promote effective communication and understanding relating to student health issues among students&#191; homes, schools, and the community. 9. Maintain accurate Health Office records, including medication files and secure storage of medication. 10. Maintain Public Health Records of current student population. 11. Participate in training as required. 12. Participate in conferences with parents/guardians and staff that include discussions of student health-related information and accommodations; may be assigned to attend staff meetings. * Perform other related duties as assigned.
