New City School 6th Grade ELA and Math Teacher/Crew Leader for the 24-25 School year GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning, an NCS Science Teacher/Crew Leader is responsible for supporting and guiding students by teaching science to students in grades 7th-8th and leading a morning crew group. Teachers/Crew Leaders are also expected to play an active role in supporting the operations and administration of the school. Qualifications: K-6 MN Teaching License Bachelor's degree Start Date: April 2024 As a Teacher: - Plan and Implement Effective Instruction: Develop and execute instructional plans aligned with state standards and the guiding curriculum. - Participate in Professional Development: Actively engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends. - Utilize Assessment Data: Analyze data from both formal and informal assessments to make informed adjustments to instruction. - Tailor Instruction: Customize teaching approaches to address individual student strengths, needs, and interests. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with advisors, administrators, students, and families to ensure each student receives appropriate support. Maintain Records: Keep accurate, comprehensive, and factual records for each student. As a Crew Leader: - Facilitate Morning Meetings: Lead morning meetings that foster a positive learning community, enhance student connections, promote social-emotional development, and prepare for student-led conferences. - Build Relationships: Develop caring and supportive relationships with students and their families. - Celebrate Accomplishments: Acknowledge and celebrate student accomplishments while holding them accountable to goals and standards. - Advocate for Students: Serve as an advocate for students and their families. - Maintain Records: Keep accurate, comprehensive, and factual records for each student and share relevant progress information with parents, students, and staff. General Responsibilities: - Collaborate for Teacher Excellence: Work collaboratively with directors and colleagues to achieve teacher excellence and maximize student learning. - Student Monitoring: Supervise and monitor students when on school property. - Attendance and Engagement: Attend staff meetings, professional development trainings, and actively participate in ongoing learning opportunities. - Seek and Apply Feedback: Actively seek and learn from feedback to improve performance and professional competence. - Support School Administration: Assist in the administration and operation of the school, contributing to its overall success.
