Job Title: Behavioral Intervention Specialist
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid Minnesota Teacher's License or the ability to obtain one before the 2024-2025 school year.
- Proficiency in behavior management and behavior intervention strategies.
- Strong communication skills and patience are essential.
- Familiarity with educational psychology, child development, and special education principles.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience in behavioral intervention within an educational setting is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and employing culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt interventions based on student needs.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Expertise in implementing evidence-based practices and familiarity with behavior assessment tools.

Job Summary: The Behavioral Intervention Specialist is integral in supporting students facing behavior challenges within the educational setting. This role involves providing individualized and small group support and instruction, alongside monitoring, reporting, and collaborating on progress tracking and intervention planning. As an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Behavioral Intervention Specialist ensures adherence to best practices in behavioral interventions and educational support.
Essential Job Functions:
Instruction and Support:
- Deliver high-quality instruction to individual students and small groups, tailored to their specific needs.
- Administer one-to-one intensive behavioral interventions as required.
- Assist in de-escalating disruptive behaviors and facilitate the successful reintegration of students into the classroom environment.
Data-Driven Intervention:
- Utilize data analysis to inform skill-based instruction and intervention strategies.
- Research and implement evidence-based interventions tailored to address specific student needs effectively.
Documentation and Communication:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of student progress using data-based methodologies.
- Regularly communicate with teachers, administrative staff, and families regarding student behavior, progress, and intervention plans.
Student Support and Development:
- Assist in identifying students in need of behavioral support and intervention.
- Guide students in setting and working towards behavioral goals, fostering accountability and growth.
Certification and Professional Development:
- Pursue certification in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) techniques to enhance expertise in behavioral management and intervention.
- Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends in behavioral intervention.
Attendance Monitoring and Improvement:
- Develop strategies to monitor and enhance student attendance, recognizing its impact on academic success.
- Implement initiatives aimed at improving attendance rates and reducing absenteeism among targeted student populations.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Monitor and track Office Referrals (ODRs) to identify patterns and trends in student behavior.
- Regularly check in and out with identified students to provide support and guidance.
- Maintain accurate records, including a service hours spreadsheet, to track workload and productivity.
Student Caseload Management:
- Work directly with a minimum of 35 students, ensuring each receives adequate support and attention.
