About Groves Summer Programs
During the summer, we are pleased to offer students from the community a tailored, high-quality educational experience. Instruction at Groves is explicit, structured, and multi-modal. Teachers combine their experience and expertise with care and understanding, using a diagnostic-prescriptive approach to continually assess and address individual student needs.
Our summer programs employ our proven philosophy of developing strengths and talents, remediating academic weaknesses, and tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. We offer programs for children entering grades 2-8 who have learning and/or attention disorders, such as dyslexia and ADHD.
About the Groves Summer Program Teacher role
The Summer Program Teacher plans and executes learning activities for a balanced program of instruction and demonstration. They provide an environment and culture in the classroom that engages students and helps them learn effectively. The small class size allows for individualized instruction and provides a collaborative atmosphere. Our summer program focuses on reading, writing, and math. We are currently seeking teachers who have experience in any or all of these subjects.
- BA/BS in Special Education/Education or similar required
- 2+ years of classroom teaching experience preferred
- The ideal candidate exhibits empathy, patience, and compassion in working with students
- Expertise in learning disorders in reading, writing, and math and attention disorders in a classroom setting
- Ability to independently assess students' capabilities, create appropriate lesson plans, and scaffold teaching to student needs
- An intuitive teaching style with the ability to differentiate instruction
- Knowledge of executive functioning skills and how deficits in these skills affect academics
- Experience in positive reinforcement and positive behavior supports preferred
- Experience in Singapore Math is preferred
- Experience in an Orton-Gillingham-based curriculum or Wilson Reading System is required
- Experience in The Writing Revolution or Kansas Writing Strategies is preferred
