Other important things to know: The District offers professional development opportunities throughout the year and a strong mentoring program for first year staff. This position is funded by ADSIS. Job Summary: The primary responsibilities of this position are to promote student success by providing students with tools and opportunities to improve their engagement with school through explicit teaching of skills and strategies in the areas of social and emotional learning, executive functioning, self-regulation, and positive behavior and organizational systems. The SEL Intervention Teacher will be responsible for implementing the Check and Connect interention system and will manage a caseload of students. Additionally, the SEL Intervention Teacher will: * Demonstrate awareness and acceptance of diversity within cultures, lifestyles, and value systems of others. * Project a positive, cooperative and respectful attitude with community members, parents, students, staff, and other employees. * Provide the best opportunity for each and every individual student to reach their maximum potential. * Provide a safe and effective learning environment. Intervention Strategies * Provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate student success. * Provide instruction in a small group classroom setting utilizing SEL curriculum and strategies. * Collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping identified students solve attendance, behavior and learning challenges. * Participate in team meetings that design intervention plans to address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical issues. * Identify factors that impact student success. * Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress. * Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student skills and understandings. * Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors. * Engage parents in the "student intervention plan" process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive development of their child. Communications * Communicate with students and families in a regular and timely manner, including a willingness to do home visits with other staff (if needed). * Communicate with appropriate staff to address and facilitate solutions for identified students. Interpersonal Skills: * Position requires highly developed interpersonal skills. Physical Involvement: * Position requires occasional repetitive motions in using electronic equipment. Mental Involvement: * Position requires handling multiple tasks. * Position requires setting priorities. * Position requires conflict resolution. * Maintains confidentiality in handling information. * Need for accuracy. * Need for flexibility. Qualifications: * Valid MN teaching license; secondary grade levels preferred. * Extensive successful teaching experience. * Experience in successfully working with at-risk populations of students. * Successful prior supervisory experience in education preferred. Special Knowledge or Skills: * Knowledge of district policies and procedures, student management and discipline. * Proficient in technology and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks, organize tasks, take direction from several sources, and give work direction. * Ability to be patient, flexible, and work with adolescents and families. * Demonstrate an ability to think through multiple scenarios for a given situation and act accordingly, address and problem-solve complex issues, as well as learn from experiences. * Display professionalism, self-confidence, assertiveness, and enthusiasm for working with others. * Intercultural competence and experience working with diverse populations. * Ability to speak multiple languages preferred (Spanish or Somali).
