Riverway Learning Community is a PreK-12 public charter school district with approximately 150 students that seeks a full or part-time (1.0-.5 FTE) SPED teacher to work in a small learning environment that is focused on the environment and inclusion. Placement is in grades 7-12, and the caseload is approximately 6-12 students in a secondary school that serves approximately 75 students. Reliability, advocacy, building relationships, and the ability to meet timelines is critical. A smaller case load, close relationships on staff, and idyllic indoor and outdoor working conditions are part of this position. https://www.riverwaylearningcommunity.org<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.riverwaylearningcommunity.org%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cscsu-edpost%40stcloudstate.edu%7C07f120a7808e412f08d908dc4cd7448e%7C5011c7c60ab446ab9ef4fae74a921a7f%7C0%7C0%7C638469734658854215%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=zPVKe5%2BgAlJjSOayOAQgxUcGHmDcCq48cYyD%2Ffltvv8%3D&reserved=0> This position is unique in that it involves an advisory-based model with mornings of 4 core traditional academic content classes. The afternoons are driven by creative and active interdisciplinary courses that change each quarter. The school design is specifically intended to create an alternative to the traditional classroom model, offer relevant and engaging classes, and allow students the chance to develop an individualized learning plan based on their interests and skill sets. Riverway owns 2 vans and 2 buses to transport students for off-site activities, and we are in the driftless region on the Mississippi with endless outdoor possibilities. The district is located on 10 acres with waterfront, woods, and open green space at the school. There is also a school forest of 160 acres in partnership with our local YMCA that includes bluff tops and valleys 10 minutes up the road. State parks and collaboration with the DNR, other agencies, non-profits, Winona State University, Minnesota State College, and the YMCA is frequent and ongoing. Riverway can hybridize and personalize this position for a candidate who is interested and able to engage students with basic academics and foster relationship building. SPED certification, experience, and licensure is preferred. This is an excellent fit for traditional teachers, professionals changing fields, as well as fitness enthusiasts, outdoor guides, sports science focused individuals, OT/PT therapists, those with mindfulness training, or anyone with an art/music background. Gardeners and other outdoor enthusiasts are also a good fit because Riverway gardens extensively for a farm-to-table, from scratch food program at the school, and we are partnered with Minnesota State College and share a campus together. The organic garden has 26 raised beds (irrigated) and about 1/2 acre of in-ground garden with a permaculture/fruit orchard to one side. Due to being a small district, our positions are created around an individual's strengths and interests. If you ever wanted to build a job suited to you and your interests, this is the perfect chance! The staff wants to work with an individual with a college degree in any variety of areas and who is interested in gaining licensure over time as an instructor. The most important aspect is the ability to build relationships with students and staff in a positive and productive way. The secondary teaching team has 4 teachers while the SPED team has 4 full-time teachers, an on-site coordinator, a SPED director, and approximately 5-8 assistants. The culture and climate is exceptional, and the teachers and staff are actively supported by administration and the teacher-led Board. Riverway has an amazing team that is supportive, fun, creative, and kind. Interviews can be scheduled as applications are received. Summer school is also an option this year (starting this June if interested) and summer school employment is offered each year. To apply, please email your cover letter, resume, and references to the director, Kevin Krieg, at kkrieg@riverwaylearningcommunity.org<mailto:kkrieg@riverwaylearningcommunity.org>.
