Educational Partner (Special Education) El Colegio High School is a public, tuition-free high school located in the vibrant and ethnically diverse Bancroft neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Mission: In community, El Colegio honors and builds upon the talents of bilingual students and their diverse families to provide the academic rigor, leadership skills, career preparation, and community connections necessary to fulfill their potential as change makers. Responsibilities of the Position Curriculum and Instruction Teachers at El Colegio are innovative and seek to enact cultural competent practices, with a foundation in the praxis of Paulo Freire and Barrio pedagogy. All curriculum and instruction should strongly reflect the mission, vision, and values of the school. &#9679; Assist with student learning. &#9679; Assist teacher(s) with subject area projects and activities. &#9679; Assist with the supervision and training of students in the development of life skills and performance of daily activities. &#9679; Assist small groups of students or individuals with the interpretation and completion of assignments. &#9679; Provide ongoing and regular communication about the assigned program to the supervising teacher &#9679; As directed by the teacher/supervisor, keep a daily journal/record of student activities &#9679; Assist professional staff in the development of appropriate student behavior. &#9679; Supervise students or groups of students during recess or in the absence of the professional in charge of the group. &#9679; Assist in supervising and arranging curricular and extracurricular activities either within or outside the school building. &#9679; Assist in preparing and arranging lesson materials and displays &#9679; Communicate with parents and other stakeholders about the educational progress of the students &#9679; Support student learning as directed by Administration &#9679; Support daily school operations. &#9679; Support staff in needed office duties. Filing, copies, answering phones etc. &#9679; Data entry &#9679; Support cafeteria in serving and needed documentation. &#9679; Supervise students as needed on recess, dismissal and passing time. &#9679; Serve as receptionist for building as needed. &#9679; Cover other staff positions as needed. &#9679; Help ensure a safe and clean learning environment for the students and staff. &#9679; Support school operations as directed by administration. School culture and professionalism As a small school, staff are expected to take up many different roles of leadership in support of the school mission. Staff hold themselves to high levels of professionalism. &#9679; Engage in a rich professional learning community that meets regularly after school to build a strong academic and school culture. &#9679; Keep accurate data necessary to the functioning of the school. &#9679; Participate in the cultural events that are the heart of El Colegio, such as Dia de los Muertos, Mi Corazon, Senior Project Presentations, etc. &#9679; Abide by the rules and regulations that govern the teaching profession for the state. &#9679; Maintain professionalism at all times. Minimum Qualifications &#9679; Associate degree and/or Passing score on ParaPro Certification Exam &#9679;Strong personal connection with the mission, vision and core values of El Colegio and a desire to proficiently meet the responsibilities of the position. &#9679; Passion for being a part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. &#9679; Collaborative approach to education that values deep relationships with families and community. &#9679; Flexible and a self-starter. &#9679; Excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualities &#9679; At least two years teaching experience in an urban context with demonstrated student success. &#9679; Experience working with English Language Learners and/or Dual Language Literacy &#9679; Bilingual and/or bicultural. Schedule This is a 10-month position, from August to June. The typical work day is from 8:30-4:30, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended times to accommodate staff meetings, learning team meetings, and schoolwide events. This is an hourly position.
