Salary
Maintenance Employee Labor Agreement: $21.80, or higher; DOE.
Hours
Full Time, 40 hours per week, 52 week per year.
Job Summary
Train, lead and supervise the custodial/maintenance staff and services, and perform a variety of cleaning duties such as vacuuming, collecting and disposing trash, dusting, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, fixtures, and carpets, spray buffing, and refinishing floors, moving furniture, cleaning of desks, chairs, offices, stairways and hall-ways. May perform other duties such as minor Building repairs, maintenance repairs on various cleaning equipment, snow removal, and event set up and clean up etc.
Primary Objective of the Position
To assume responsibility for carrying out custodial/maintenance activities that will insure safe, clean, healthy, and comfortable buildings to facilitate the mission of the school district. Act as Team Leader, building liaisons to students, teachers and community groups using the facility.
Major areas of Job Accountabilities
* Building Head Custodian is responsible to see that the custodial function is carried out properly in the assigned building of the Hopkins School District.
* To assure the professional cleaning of his/her area so as to set an example for other custodial staff to maintain cleanliness and treat others with respect.
* To train all other custodians to recognize their responsibilities in cleaning all fixtures, furniture, cubicles, offices, conference rooms, hallways, stairways, closets, file rooms, trash carts, elevators, carpet and floors and event set up.
* To assure schedules for HVAC for each program/events in the building 7 days/24 hours. To be available to meet any Building Emergencies.
* To assure the routine maintenance of carpet, trash removal and dust control. Vacuum edges and work surfaces, furniture and chalkboards as needed.
* To assure the neat appearance and the cleanliness of the rest room floor, fixtures, chromes, walls, toilet bowls, wash basins, soap dispensers, mirrors.
* To assure that the needed supplies and tools required for successful task completion are requested in sufficient time so that no delay occurs in the cleaning, set up or maintenance of the buildings.
* To update inventory by keeping and stocking cleaning supplies and chemicals with proper and correct label for daily use.
* Building Head Custodian shall attend monthly meetings called by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and discus issues or problems that cannot be solved by the Head custodian.
* Head Custodian is responsible for a number of record keeping tasks: payroll adjustment cards, leave request forms, building damage and property report, scheduling work requests, overtime, etc.
* Be available to help public groups using the buildings and to assure that their area is set-up for their use.Also assist district contractors, vendors and community service activities in the buildings.
* Establish and maintain positive working relations with all staff members, supervisors, students, teachers, parents and all building staff members who come in contact with.
* Head person position is an important position and its task varies with activities in and around the buildings. He/She reports to the Building & Grounds Supervisors. He/She is also accountable to the Custodial/Maintenance Coordinator, School Principal, in matters of building operation relating to educational activities, extra curricular activities and parent functions.
Job Specifications
* Must have a first class "C" Engineer license as called for in Minnesota Statute and required in the Labor Agreement Contract or the ability to obtain.
* Ability to train, lead and direct a custodial staff in the assigned building and assist activities occurring in the facilities. Understand basic math and record keeping.
* Working knowledge of Cleaning techniques, proper use of cleaning products & equipment, Building Security systems, Energy control system, etc.
* Basic knowledge of Electricity, and HVAC system. Ability to diagnose problems in the operation of HVAC system.
* Experience in repairing vacuum cleaners, other cleaning equipment which are used to maintain the safety and cleanliness of the Buildings and Grounds.
* Ability to train custodial staff members the operation of buffers, burnishers, vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaning machines, automatic floor scrubbers and sweepers.
* Ability to conduct periodic inspections to assure quality and cleanliness, able to lift up to 80 pounds and carry 100pounds.
