Teacher – Special Education
Reports to: Building Principal
Department: Teacher
Works with: Students and Other Staff
Job Summary: Instructs special needs students in education subjects appropriate to learning ability, grade level and district/state curriculum requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Teaches District approved curriculum daily.
* Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil daily.
* Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
* Translates lesson plans into developmentally-appropriate learning experiences daily.
* Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
* Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals daily.
* Works with paraprofessionals and gives direction as needed.
* Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. and communicates these objectives to students.
* Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related.
* Teaching certification in Special Education required.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work with core subject matter concepts and apply concepts to practical situations.
Salary range $45,818 to $86,996 - depending on education and experience.
