Job Title: Middle School Language Arts Teacher
Location: 300 Industrial Blvd NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Position Summary:
This is a full time position teaching Middle School Language Arts for 7th and 8th grade. Classes at Northeast College Prep range from 20-30 students. The Middle School ELA Teacher will teach an advisory class, departmentalized language arts classes, and intervention groups during daily WIN time to approximately 70 seventh and eighth grade students. They will also supervise recess and be a part of a small middle school team of three teachers to collaboratively develop an excellent middle school experience. This position may also teach some science classes as needed.

* Be a part of a middle school team that will teach content area classes, supervise recess, teach social emotional learning lessons, and provide targeted interventions
* Contribute positively to the middle school team of adults who work closely to create a positive and productive student learning experience
* Establish and maintain strong communication lines with parents/guardians
* Seek to improve their practice through coaching feedback and ongoing reflection
* Create a classroom/group environment in which every child can succeed and which establishes high academic and behavior standards
* Implement and support the school-wide approach to classroom management and discipline
* Teach all approved curricula with fidelity, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students
* Participate fully in all professional development, Professional Learning Communities, and staff meetings
* Administer and use assessment data to make instructional decisions
* Prepare and maintain appropriate records, report cards etc.
* Attend IEP meetings as needed
Required Qualifications:
* Have or be able to obtain a Minnesota Middle Level (5th - 8th grade or 5th-12th grade) Language Arts license (or be eligible to be licensed by the State of Minnesota) upon hire
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work with diverse student and staff populations
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience teaching urban, English language learning middle school students
* Fluency (ideally) or proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Somali or Hmong
* Responsive Classroom and/or Catalyst trained

Teachers supervise students at recess and during breakfast, creating more informal time for teachers and students to develop relationships. Outside of this time, teachers have 45 minutes of preparation time, a duty-free lunch, and additional daily time to meet with other teachers and staff.
We are a Responsive Classroom school that believes in restorative practices and teaching intrinsic motivation (i.e. we don't use extrinsic motivation like candy or public behavior charts to motivate students) so that students do the right thing even if no one is watching. Some students are supported with positive behavior charts that use incentives such as quality time with an adult or a choice activity.
NECP exists to ensure that all children have access to an education that will help them to maximize their options in life, thereby contributing to a more just society. Our students and their families speak 14 different primary languages. About 50% qualify for English Language Learning services and about 90% qualify for free or reduced lunch and around 12% qualify for Special Education.
Compensation:
A competitive salary and full benefits will be offered. Initial salary placement for first year candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree is $42,664 and first year candidates with a Master’s Degree is $47,998.
