The Goodhue County Education District is a collaboration of six southeastern Minnesota school districts: Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lake City, Red Wing, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Our primary goal is to strive towards inclusive excellence in learning across the county.
We are excited to offer an opportunity to work as the Director of American Indian Education for the Goodhue County Education District. This is an important role, with a focus on ensuring that American Indian students are receiving culturally relevant and equitable education opportunities. This role will also facilitate and support the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee. This is a part-time (.2 FTE) and in-person position.

Position Summary:
The Director of American Indian Education helps ensure that American Indian students are receiving culturally relevant and equitable educational opportunities.
Supervision and Controls over the Work:
Serves under the broad guidance and administrative supervision of the Director of Equity and Instructional Services. Work is guided by, and must be in compliance with, federal and state law, policy direction of the School Board, and compliance with state and local regulatory agencies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Governance structures
- Facilitate the American Indian Parent Advisory Council.
- Facilitate regular meetings with American Indian Parent Advisory Committee to facilitate, assess partnership opportunities, and accomplish performance goals.
- Partner with Prairie Island Indian Community to support the academic needs of Native students at RiverBluff and 5RO.
- Write and manage all state and federal grants related to American Indian Education.
- Connect GCED staff to professional development regarding American Indian Education and Tribal Relations.
- Partner with The Dream Catcher Project to address the disproportionality of Native students identified for Special Education Services in Goodhue County.
- Provide responsive training, technical assistance, and coaching that support the implementation of the key practices and enabling conditions at sites for American Indian Education.
- Increase data-literacy, data access, and data-based decision making in Goodhue County.
- At least three years of experience in the field of Education, Public Policy, Project Management, Youth Programs, Experience working with American Indian students, families, and communities preferred;
- Three to five years of experience working in schools;
- A systems-thinking approach, with the ability to make connections and align services to better support student engagement and learning;
- The ability to ignite and support change, to encourage leaders to be open to new approaches to collaboration, time, and resources, with the goal of achieving improved outcomes;
- A deep understanding of effective community partnerships;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build solid work relationships;
- Experience coordinating and/or managing programs in an educational, non-profit, or human services setting.
