Purpose Statement:
Hopkins Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Digital Literacy Specialists (DLS) team. This position requires a visionary educator who can seamlessly blend the traditional role of a Library Media Specialist with expertise in computer science to lead Hopkins into the future of education. We are seeking a qualified individual with specialized expertise in computer science to join our team and contribute to the development of our E-12+ computer science programming. Strong candidates prioritize making the curriculum and learning experiences in our media centers inclusive, equitable, representative, and accessible to all learners. The ideal candidate demonstrates an expertise and depth of experiences in computer science, coding and AI combined with successful program development experience.

Our Digital Literacy Specialists are at the forefront of helping our school communities access, understand, and use information and media resources. They will integrate the principles, practices, and ethics of library and information science with a deep understanding of the people who use information systems in their work and communities.
Key Responsibilities:
* E-12+ Computer Science (CS) Programming Development and Implementation: Develop and implement a computer science scope and sequence informed by the Minnesota Department of Education’s Computer Science State Strategic Plan. Write curriculum, manage materials, provide professional learning opportunities and ensure CS programming implementation fidelity.
* Media Coordination: Support management of media center operations, programming, and resources at designated school sites in collaboration with Digital Literacy Specialist(s). Ensure the media center space is inviting and welcoming to all learners. Oversee day-to-day operations, preserving essential functions and services such as supporting reading, media check-out, and instilling a love of reading in students.
* Learning Facilitator: Conduct classroom push-in sessions at designated school sites focusing on (1) digital literacy topics, (2) computer science, computational thinking, coding, AI, cybersecurity, (3) digital citizenship, media and digital literacies, and (4) research skills and strategies.
Qualifications:
* Required:
* Bachelor’s degree in education or a closely related field
* Required Minnesota teaching licensure: CTE - Communications Technology Careers - OR - Technology (Computer Science Focus)
* Driver’s license - travel required to locations throughout the District.
* Desired:
* Teaching experience integrating technology
* Teaching experience around computer science, coding and AI
* Desire and skillset to become a resident expert in computer science, coding, and AI
* Ability to collaboratively develop an E-12+ computer science scope and sequence, write curriculum, manage materials, and build system capacity to facilitate change management and programming implementation with fidelity
* Experience facilitating adult teams and/or teacher leadership experience
* Project management experience

* Develop E-12+ computer science scope and sequence ensuring alignment with future forward educational standards and best practices
* Write E-12+ computer science curriculum
* Manage E-12+ computer science materials
* Build E-12+ computer science capacity
* Ensure computer science programming implementation fidelity
* Co-manage Computer Science for All project charter and strategic planning
Digital Literacies:
* Design and implement learning experiences
* Model effective media and digital literacy practices
* Conduct classroom push-in sessions on digital literacy topics
* Advocate for and actively advance inclusive media use and equitable access
* Spearhead integration of media and technology in partnership with Technology Integration Specialists and Instructional Coaches
* Guide students and staff in ethical use of information
* Promote reading and digital literacies
Media Coordination:
* Support coordination and management of Media Center operations, programming, and resources
* Provide oversight, support and supervision for Media Paraprofessionals
* Support procurement, vetting, and curate high-quality, culturally-affirming books and media
* Research and implement forward-focused media and technology practices
* Align digital and physical media tools and practices
* Support classroom teachers and school sites in literacy efforts
* Provide professional learning opportunities for staff
* Collaborate with teachers to create engaging learning experiences
