Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept online applications for the position of Developmental Adaptive Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher (.4 FTE) at our Secondary School for the 2025-2026 school year. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
Salary Range: $44,929 - $102,918
Salary placement is based on education and experience as indicated in Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Summary
The Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing specialized physical education instruction for students with disabilities. This role ensures that all students have access to a high-quality physical education program tailored to their individual needs, abilities, and goals. The DAPE teacher collaborates with special education staff, general education teachers, and other service providers to support students in achieving their physical and motor development objectives.
Job Functions
* Develop and implement individualized physical education programs for students with disabilities in compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and federal/state regulations.
* Assess students' motor skills, physical abilities, and adaptive needs to determine appropriate instruction and modifications and for special education evaluations.
* Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in various physical activities, including motor skills development, fitness, sports, and recreational activities.
* Modify curriculum, equipment, and instructional strategies to ensure accessibility and success for students with diverse needs.
* Collaborate with special education teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other related service providers to align instruction with students’ overall educational goals.
* Provide direct and consultative services to support students in both adapted and inclusive physical education settings.
* Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet individual goals.
* Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and school staff regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for success.
* Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education and adapted physical education services.
* Advocate for inclusive practices and the participation of students with disabilities in school and community physical activities.
* Support with building unified programming in the district
* Provide professional development and training to general physical education teachers and paraprofessionals on adaptive strategies and best practices.
* Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required by school and district policies.
* Adhere to staff and program guidelines and district procedures and policies.
* Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

* Minnesota licensure or certification in Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE); or
* Authorization for the district to complete an Out of Field Permission (OFP) request; or
* Ability to meet the Tier 1 or Tier 2 PELSB license guidelines.
* Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting preferred.
* Knowledge of adapted physical education strategies, behavior management techniques, and inclusive practices.
* Excellent communication skills with families, students and staff.
* Excellent speaking and writing skills.
* Sensitivity and compassion for the needs and issues for families and students with disabilities.
* Desire to provide assistance and advocacy to families and children with disabilities.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, and school personnel.
* Knowledge of and understanding for the legal and ethical requirement to keep information about students and families confidential.
* Excellent teaching skills.
* Excellent technology skills.
* Commitment to working effectively with culturally, economically and socially diverse students and families.
* Ability to understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students

The physical demands and working environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Work is performed in a school setting, including gymnasiums, outdoor spaces, and classrooms. This job involves physical activity including lifting and assisting students with mobility needs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary functions.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to kneel, reach, stand, walk and climb stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
