Community of Peace Academy is an urban public charter school located on the East Side of St. Paul Minnesota serving over 800 students in grades PreK to 12. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
1) Extensive knowledge of the college admission process
2) Ability to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive college counseling program that will reinforce the Community of Peace mission
3) Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
4) Flexibility; ability to manage simultaneous demands from a variety of sources; ability to manage crisis situations that impact individuals as well as large groups; and maintain emotional control under stress
5) Detail oriented, interpret policy, procedures, and data; compile and coordinate student data
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1) Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive college registration program that will fulfill the Community of Peace mission across appropriate grade levels.
2) Assist and inform students about career opportunities including: post secondary option, college/career fairs, college assessments, scholarship opportunity, employment, volunteer, financial aid, deadline dates, school summer options, internship and mentorship program
3) Research, establish and maintain long-term relationships within the college admissions arena, including but not limited to – college admissions counselors/directors, university outreach centers
4) Classroom presentation on career opportunity
5) Coordinate all college speakers and college trips
6) Maintain constant and open communication with students, parents, teachers and administrators regarding the college admission process
7) Work closely to ensure all high school students are in compliance with state regulations regarding high school credits and that they are reported in an efficient and easy manner to external evaluators, track and manage student academic records and college application status/decisions
8) Assist with other administrative duties, when necessary, including, but not limited to, lunch duty
9) Conduct individual and/or small group meetings with students and their families when necessary (e.g., financial aid workshops, transition from high school to college, etc); communicate in a clear and effective manner
10) Facilitation of the registration process i.e. new/transfer students registration, Middle School registration, registration for enrolled students, PSEO students and alternative school program etc..
11) Consult with students, parents and teachers regarding graduation requirements and high standards profile.
12) Classroom presentation on registration process at the middle school
13) Refer students to alternative school programs such as: ALC, PSEO, adult learning center, summer school, job and camps.
14) Project a professional, responsible, and positive image, establish and maintain a work environment conducive to positive staff morale
15) Demonstrate trustworthiness in dealing with confidential matters and conduct all school-related meetings in a professional manner
16) Assist High School teaching staff in their advisory responsibilities
