Job description The Multilingual Teacher is responsible for ensuring all students are able to access grade-level content regardless of English Proficiency. An expert in language instruction and building a positive community, the EL teacher uses data to design instruction for each EL student at their language ability level using the WIDA ELD Standards Framework. The position requires the ability to design and implement instruction in both a pull-out classroom space and a push-in collaborative space. A strong ethic and skillset in collaboration is essential. This position reports to the building principal. Duties: ELL Duties * Provide direct support to students by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies. Instruction can be provided within the regular classroom setting & small group setting. * Ensure appropriate language accommodations to the curriculum, lessons and learning environment. * Plan units of study and lessons by following the MN State Standards and WIDA ELD Standards through common planning time with grade level team. * Write and implement language objectives that are challenging and measurable, and are based on MN standards as well as student assessment data. * Design classroom activities and lessons with multiple levels so that all students both meet their goals and can access the curriculum. * Formally and informally assess the student learning (rather than relying solely on standardized curriculum) * Set high expectations that are suitable for the students. * Work collaboratively with classroom Co-Teacher, teaching and grade-level teams and other staff, especially instructional support team, to plan, share student work and ensure that instruction is aligned with identified curriculum and standards. * Promote respect for culturally and linguistically diverse families and children. Build a Positive Community * Develop a safe, caring classroom community built upon principles and practices that embrace a trauma-informed, actively anti-racist approach. * Support daily community-building circles as needed based on schedule and needs. * Establish clear and predictable routines and procedures to ensure students are safe and productive. * Provide appropriate support, reteaching, and self-regulation opportunities to help students demonstrate successful school behavior. * Build individual relationships with each student and family * Provide regular opportunities for joy inside of the classroom Teaching and Learning * Design and deliver lessons based on WIDA ELD standards and the Minnesota State Standards * Write and post content and language objectives for each lesson. * Assign rigorous, engaging, and differentiated work to ensure each student receives appropriate support and challenges. * Provide daily formative assessments and regular summative assessments to monitor student mastery of content. Adapt instruction based on assessment results. * Teach content embracing a critical race theory approach. Ensure content provides an honest reckoning of the American story with its racist past and present. * Implement accommodations and modifications for students as required * Include students in setting goals for their learning. Assist students in tracking their individual progress towards goal completion. Planning/Preparation * Support classroom teachers in the development of quarterly plans to ensure that the curriculum covers all power standards to mastery over the course of the year. Update and adjust regularly. * Create and prepare daily lesson plans for appropriate age and learning skill level, making adjustments when needed. Files should be uploaded to shared team file. * Design content to ensure students engage deeply with diverse, representative texts and materials * Create and/or print out instructional material for classroom use * Keep records of student progress towards mastery of each standard.
