Description:
Shakopee Public Schools is searching for two Gifted Education Teachers (2.0 FTE) for the 25/26 School Year at the Elementary level.
Job Summary:
The Elementary Gifted Education Teacher is responsible for providing advanced, differentiated instruction to gifted students. The teacher creates and implements curriculum that challenges students' intellectual abilities and fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. They assess students' needs and learning styles, develop personalized learning plans, and provide enrichment opportunities in reading and math. The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure that gifted students receive the support and resources necessary for their academic growth and emotional development.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Direct Instruction for Students
* Provide instruction for identified elementary students.
* Review student achievement to ensure proper placement for challenge and success of all students in the programs.
* Provide quality direct instruction to students.
* Maintain and submit accurate and up to date management of students’ progress.
Collaboration and Curriculum Development to Meet Student Needs
* Create and find resources to best meet the needs of students in the program.
* Create and find resources to support students and classroom teachers.
* Collaborate with building PLCs.
* Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff.
Staff and Community Outreach and Communication
* Maintain a high level of professional communication with staff and families regarding programming for qualified students.
* Communicate with families and serve as a liaison between school, families, and community.
* Consult and communicate with families, teachers, administration, and support staff and attend meetings such as district, building, grade level, department, curriculum, MTSS, open house, parent-teacher conferences, and IEP meetings.
Support Identification of Students for Programming
* Collaborate with larger district identification processes, provide ongoing up to date information, and actively work with teachers to help them understand the process.
* Maintain current data and growth data on identified students.
* Advocate for students’ proper placement to be both challenged and successful as well as advocate for developing talents in historically underrepresented populations in gifted and/or accelerated education.
Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
* Must possess a current Minnesota teacher licensure in Elementary Education.
* Master’s Degree in Education preferred.
* Gifted and Talented license or certificate preferred.
Experience:
* Previous experience as a Gifted and Talented, High Potential, or differentiation coach preferred.
* Background with Young Scholars and equity work preferred.
* Successful classroom teaching experience preferred.
* Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
Special Knowledge or Skills:
* Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement differentiation
* Possess high quality instructional practices in the area of literacy, math and best practices in gifted and talented education..
* Demonstrates an understanding of “best practices” and latest literature in the field, specifically:
* Equity and Underrepresented Populations
* Gifted and Talented
* Dual Exceptionalities
* Talent Development
* Personalized Learning
* Technology Integration
