School Social Worker Job Description
The School Social Worker (SSW) will work directly with students, teachers, and parents to promote and support students’ academic and social success by providing specialized services and link them to appropriate support organizations.
Qualifications:
* Licensed School Social Worker (MSW preferred)
* Licensed by MN Department of Education
* Experience working in a school setting (preferred)
* Commitment to the school’s mission and values
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group services to special education and general education students to help improve social skills, life skills, emotional regulation
* Member of the special education and problem-solving teams
* Conduct functional behavior assessments and develop behavior intervention plans for students that are experiencing significant behavioral problems
* Conduct social development history evaluations and communicate the results to all team members
* Deliver crisis response and intervention services to students, families, and staff, as needed
* Collaborate with special and general education staff to build a community of support for students
* Assist in identifying needed community resources for students and make appropriate referrals to resources to facilitate educational and behavioral interventions recommended for student success
* Provide consultation and support to staff working with students
* Provide core services including: prevention, consultation, intervention, assessment, and counseling. Services include, but are not limited to, conducting observations, collecting data, reviewing student records, conferring with teachers, paras, and parents, conducting functional assessments, counseling (individual and group) and planning behavior interventions. These core services are adapted to the particular needs of each student, situation and setting
* Coordinate 504 Accommodation Plans
* Monitor attendance and truancy and make appropriate referrals as necessary
* Collaborate with county and community student support, mental health, and counseling agencies and make appropriate referrals as necessary
* Provides support to staff in the identification and referral of children where there is potential neglect, abuse, or dependency.
