This is accomplished through collaboration with building administration, special education coordinators, building staff, and other stakeholders. Special Education Department Lead staffing allocations are determined by a building&#8217;s population of students who receive special education services. Buildings will be allocated a .5 or 1.0 position. This allocation will not be responsible for a teaching assignment or caseload. Programs or schools with a population of less than 36 students who will be allocated a 1.0 position. This allocation will be responsible for teaching classes and will carry a caseload. Job Summary: * Provide ongoing coaching/mentoring to staff to ensure high-quality educational instruction, intervention, and due process best practices are in place. * Consult with building staff on students with special education needs, accommodations, and behavior plans to support student success. * Serve as SPED representative on Student Support Teams. * Assist with the daily schedule and coverage as staff and students are absent * Report to the Building/Program Coordinator or Director of Special Services in regard to major issues. * Attend/facilitate IEP meetings, manifestation determination, and conciliation or mediation conferences as appropriate. * Assist in monitoring expenditures in order to meet student, staff and supply needs. * Monitor staff workloads and inform the Building Administration/SPED Coordinator when needed. * Collaborate with Building Principals on the provision of services consistent with School District and building philosophy and State and Federal rules in order to maintain compliance with required regulations and procedures. * Five additional days will be assigned to this position for the purpose of annual training, support building scheduling, and facilitation of student enrollment from July 1 -June 30. * Other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications: * BA/BS degree, advanced degree desirable. * Minnesota teaching license in a special education or related service area * Knowledge about due process "best practices". * Knowledge about curriculum content and processes. * Knowledge about computers and other technologies as applied to the instructional process. * Ability to work independently and in a team with minimum supervision. * Excellent human relations skills. * Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. * Excellent organizational skills.
