JOB TITLE: Science Teacher Division/Department: Education/Ojibwe School Location: Fond du Lac Ojibwe School Reports To: K-12 Building School Principal Probationary Period: 90 days &#8211; Full time FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried) Classification: Child Related CA Driver&#8217;s License: Level 0 - No Driver&#8217;s License is required. DOT or FTA Yes No Rate of Pay: $43,880.00-$47,863.49 GENERAL SUMMARY: Teaches 7-11 courses in science as specified by state law and standards. Within the courses, the teacher incorporates creative and engaging lessons that embed American Indian culture and values. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: &#8226; Uses best practice to instruct students and adapts science materials that provide relevant sequential assignments which guides and challenges students. &#8226; Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interests and maturity levels of students; maintains required inventory records. &#8226; Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student. &#8226; Develops a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments, organizes laboratory activities for optimum learning. &#8226; Develops a science program using scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments and standard or teacher prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids. &#8226; Instruct students in proper use, care and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment, and plant and animal life. &#8226; Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas. &#8226; Evaluates each student&#8217;s progress in science knowledge and skills. &#8226; Communicates in an appropriate manner with parents/guardians and school counselors on student progress. &#8226; Prepares materials for lessons in a timely manner and maintains accurate daily records of student performance, attendance, and periodic grading. &#8226; Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. &#8226; Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities. &#8226; Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the Fond du Lac Education Division, and/or self-selected professional growth activities, and other professional developmental programs or activities. &#183; Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult child interactions. &#8226; Demonstrates care and kindness using the restorative practice framework, with our students and colleagues. &#8226; Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members. &#8226; Maintains professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff. &#8226; Participates in all meetings as directed. &#8226; Routine classroom cleaning/maintenance to ensure a safe clean and secure learning environment for all students. &#8226; Appropriate work attire is required. &#8226; Must attend all mandatory department trainings. &#8226; Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients. &#8226; Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems. &#8226; Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers. &#8226; Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community. &#8226; Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies. &#8226; Maintains a clean and organized work area. &#8226; Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: &#8226; No Driver&#8217;s License is required. &#8226; Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Science and appropriate Minnesota certification is required. &#8226; Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, databases and/or data entry, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook is required. &#8226; Experience teaching is preferred. &#8226; Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and can demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred. &#8226; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required. &#8226; Ability to work independently and establish work priorities is required. &#8226; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required. &#8226; Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required. &#8226; Attention to detail and accuracy is required. &#8226; Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved. &#8226; Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation&#8217;s Personnel Policies. &#8226; Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks. &#8226; Some travel is required.
